When Jody awoke it took her several minutes to figure out where she was. She seemed to be in some kind of shelter made of branches and leaves. She could hear the sound of birds singing and insects buzzing and chirping. She crawled out of the shelter and stood blinking in the sunlight. The shelter was in fact a small house built entirely from branches and leaves. The house was in a clearing surrounded by trees. Jody gazed around in wonder, she was in Neverland.

She's awake!

Quick, the Jody girl is awake!

Is she really?

Yes, that's what I said

Jody turned to see a group of children peering round a tree trunk.

You must be the lost boys exclaimed Jody excitedly

Yes said the three boys coming out from behind the tree

And lost girls added two girls appearing from behind the tree opposite.

We must take her to Peter

Come with us Jody

Jody followed the children into the woods. Jody stared in awe at the ancient trees with twisted roots, gnarled trunks and great boughs. There were vines entwined in the trees, that dangled down like huge green curtains. The forest was teeming with wildlife. Butterflies flitted through the dappled light, birds sang high above in the tree tops, frogs as colourful as jewels perched on leaves. They came to a tree so large that Jody could not see over the huge buttress roots. The children directed her to a smaller tree nearby which had a hollow middle. She watched in amazement as two of the children disappeared inside it.

Go on, its your turn. Coaxed the others.

Jody soon found that the floor inside the tree sloped down into the ground, like a slide. She slid down into the darkness and suddenly found herself in a cavernous room within the larger tree. The floor was simply earth, so well trodden that it was as smooth as polished wood. The walls were the trunk of the tree. There were hammocks slung in alcoves around the room and in several places bunks were carved into the walls. The tree house was very homely, there were rugs made of skins and furs and large toadstools as seats.
