A-report
Wednesday night, 8 pm
"You want me to do what?" Axel says as he looks at, what is supposed to be, Owen Blackbourne. Owen Blackbourne wearing sweatpants and a t-shirt, and...is that a makeup smear?
"You must play me for at least this Saturday. If any more days are required, we can discuss details of what will be necessary." Owen says raising an eyebrow.
"Why? Why can you not be yourself? Why are you involved in this at all?"
"Mr. Toma, as you are aware, part of my team and I are currently under cover-"
"We are aware." Axel cut in with a smirk.
Owen's glare cut him off, "So, Sean thought it would be smart to mention 'Owen' to his roommate, and promise to introduce them. Unfortunately, the roommate is an observant student of mine. That is where you come in." Axel nods along.
"You know we look nothing alike."
"I'm well aware of our differences Mr. Toma. However, you are the one person amongst our age group that I have full trust in to play the part with the uh details I'm sure Sean has share about me."
"Details? Owen are you-"
"NO," Owen interrupts with a glare at the smirking Axel. "I mean, the attire and attitude that Sean has presented."
"Ah, you mean the stick up your ass."
"If you so choose to put it that way."
"Is that all you require of my team? You know we are your back-up. If you need anything else, the Academy has already imbursed us for the help we are willing to provide you."
Owen raises a brow, "My team is perfectly capable Mr. Toma. I assure you, we will be in touch if anything more is required. However, Sean is willing to accept any personal debt your require, as well as the rest of my team."
"None needed Owen. This will be fun." Axel smirks. "When else will I get a chance to meet the girls?"
Owen fights off a smirk, "You may see them now if you would like, it would probably help so you can put a face and name together."
"You make an excellent point, it would be beneficial if I got to see them now."
"They are in their dorms now, but I'll send a message for them to head over when they can. Like I mentioned, their roommate is very observant and very bright."
"She must be, you don't praise just anyone. You're lucky the Academy pays well. A bird might just kill me for canceling on her." Axel says, sticking out his hand for Owen to shake it, confirming the deal.
"Thank you," Owen says, before a millimeter smile graces his lips, and just the barest hints of laughter enter his eyes. "Now, I'll message the girls."
SUPRISE IT'S Axel's POV
"What in the ever loving-" I exclaim with wide eyes before prompted bursting into laughter. One out of the three girls-boys-whatever blush upon seeing me. The other two glare directly at their foreboding leader.
"Owen-" Sean starts off in a high pitched voice, but coughs to correct himself. "Owen, I thought this was private."
"Cold Mr. B." Luke says with a click of his tongue.
"Where is Victor?" Owen says, disregarding his teammates.
"He stayed with Pookie!" Sean says with a smirk. What's a Pookie? Ehh, maybe I don't want to know.
"We told her we were going on a snack run." Kota says with a blush.
"Well, I certainly didn't expect this. It is a good thing I met the girls today." I say with a smirk.
"Why is that Axel? Or should I say Owen?" Sean says with a wide grin.
"Don't starting hitting on him now Shawna." Luke says with a grin. "Gotta save the show for Cupcake."
"What show?" I say a little concerned. "Please tell me-"
"The idiots that I call brothers led our poor little Pookie into thinking I have a crush on Owen."
"Wait-"
"You kissed-" I turned to Owen at this, but before I could say anything Sean already started talking.
"ONCE. IT WAS A MISSION. WE ARE NOT GAY."
"Sure." Luke drawled.
"Point is, I told Pumpkin we weren't dating, but the idiots just don't let up. THEY BET ON US OWEN."
"I'm aware."
"Damn, Marc's gonna be mad about losing to Raven."
"THEM TOO!?"
"On the bright side the Russian didn't think you were gay." Kota offers.
"But Corey did." I interject with a smug grin.
"DAMN IT!" Sean exclaims, as Owen sighs.
"We are losing focus gentlemen. Mr. Toma is just on his way out. I'm going to hand over a loose copy of your covers to him. It will simply state your names. Please send a photo of what Victoria looks like to him tonight."
"Photographic proof? Oh priceless!" Luke says with a devilish grin.
"You know that the guys took pictures of all of us last weekend right?" Kota groans.
"Wait me?"
"And me?"
"You think Gabe didn't?"
"NO!" Both of them shout, and I laugh as I turn to Owen.
"Well, this has been fun, and I can't wait to see what hell they try on Saturday. However, I gotta head out. Owen."
"Mr. Toma," he replies as he shakes my hand. Formal as ever. I roll my eyes as I head out. Now, how to tell Kayli? McDonalds....having food around shouldn't do any harm.
I run through the nearest McDonalds making sure to grab a few large fries, two twenty piece McNuggets,a few burgers, and two large milkshakes. I have to cheat anyway I can with that woman. And once Raven sees food, he will want some as well. Pig.
I pull up to the hotel we are staying at for a few more nights before we head back to Charleston for a few days to resupply and run a few minor missions. I gather the large amount of food before making my way up to our room, hoping beyond hope that she will not be too upset.
Getting in the room I see her and Corey playing on the Xbox One he brought for down time like these moments.
"Hey guys, I brought food."
Kayli pausing the game at the mention of food. As soon as her bright eyes see the bag and milkshake a wide smile takes over her face. So far so good. I hand her the chocolate shake as she digs through the bag. She brings out both boxes of chicken nuggets and a fry. I roll my eyes and swipe one of the boxes of nuggets away. She start to happily munch away with a small protest. All I grunt out is Raven and she rolls her eyes, but accepts it. I look around, taking note of the small hotel room. We really can create some chaos in a week for Academy boys. I think as I spot the Chinese from two nights ago on the nightstand and what I think are Raven's underwear on a lampshade. Clearing that thought from my head, I bring my attention back to Kayli.
I clear my throat, "Kayli, I uh, took a mission Saturday, so, we might have to change the time for your meeting."
Kayli stops eating and looks at me, I can see the fire slowly building in her eyes. "I'm sorry, what did you say? You want me to change a meeting? Because YOU took a job?"
I rub my hands together and inwardly cringe, I could have delivered that better. "Technically it's part of the job we were already on." I offer, but that doesn't go over well either as she puts down the fry she was about to eat. Shit not the distraction.
"Well, I can't," she stands and crosses her arms.
"Why not?"
She looks at me and squints her eyes, "Because I can't get ahold of Sang. She doesn't have a phone. We have been doing this weekly since I graduated, I can't just not go, she will freak out!" Kayli gets a soft look in eyes when she said Sang's name.
"Why would she freak out?" Corey asks timidly, not wanting to upset her further. Not that I blame him.
She looks at him, "Because Sang worries about everyone. Right now, I am the only one that is considered her family. She is my little sister, and if I don't show up, she will think something bad. We ALWAYS have these meetings. Once a week, on every Saturday, at exactly that time. We've shown up broken, sick, or healthy. If I don't show, then she will start looking for me. She may even leave school grounds. Which God knows could only go wrong. Then whenever she miraculously finds me, which she will, I will get another lecture. And believe me, you do NOT want a lecture from Sang. Not only is she logical, but the girl makes you feel like shit! Like you were the one in the wrong. It's like fucking magic." She finishes the rant with a huff.
"Are you sure you can't contact her? Meet a day early?" Corey offers.
Kayli opens her mouth to say something, but snaps it close. "If I had a heads up maybe. I mean it's so last minute-even if I over nighted it there is a chance it wouldn't even get through screening in time to make it to her." Kayli rambles, and I raise a brow. None of that made sense, and Corey has the same look on his face.
"Care to explain?" Corey says. "Maybe we can figure it out."
"Well, it's stupid. Granted it's the schools fault, but we have a code. It's a weird code, but it's never failed before. Sang made it before she came to Hell, but then we adapted it to fit. It's called a care package."
"A care package?"
"Yeah, some kids get them. Mostly freshman, but every once in awhile the upper class men get them too. Friends or family that haven't completely forgotten about them. The twist is the letter."
"This sounds creepy." Corey says, and Kayli lightly punches his arm.
"It isn't creepy! I send her some stuff she needs, stuff that makes it through the screening process easily, and then I attach a letter with it. In it is the usually bullshit girls write, but the signature matters more than anything."
"The signature?"
"Yeah, see we found out by trial and error that anything written in a foreign language that couldn't be translated by Google would automatically be trashed, and any mention of meetings or sketchy things is binned too, so the signature is the place they don't look."
"That's-actually genius." Corey says with a thoughtful expression. My eyebrows arch in contemplation.
"Yeah, I know. Took months. But they read every piece of mail, and check every box thoroughly. It could take two days before it touches Sang's doorstep. So, it's too late to send a care package."
"Maybe not." I say.
"Axel, mail has run today. Since it's Wednesday night I don't think it will be able to get to her." Kayli replies with an eye roll.
"If I can guarantee that it will see Sang's doorstep by Friday morning will you make it?"
She huffs, "You're not magic Axel."
"What's the second rule?"
"Trust your family." She grunts out. "Fine, give me a pen. I'm giving you a list of exactly what to buy. Don't deviate."
"Yes ma'am!" Corey salutes. Maybe I've averted the crisis after all.
"And Axel, if this doesn't work, and I have to listen to a Sang lecture-you're dead." I gulp, maybe.
