April, 1927
(rewritten)

Genevieve silently ran her wand over Credence's back. With each flinch she bit her lip further and continued to heal him. Throughout the whole process the mantra of her fault echoed against her thoughts. It vividly bounced from one side of her mind to the next. Like bullets, it ripped apart her securities and pulled them piece by piece. But she couldn't be weak in this moment, especially as she healed cracks over Credence's palm to reveal old memories.

I should've never left him she thought before saying:

"See, all better" aloud.

With a smile into his ink-filled eyes, Genevieve proceeded to place two delicate kisses upon his palms. Against her lips the balls of his hands felt rough and she could only forget this by snaking her arms tightly around his torso. How badly was he suffering as she mulled over his abuse in this horror?

For what seemed to be hours, Genevieve forgot of her job and basked in the warmth the two generated. Just like she thought: pure, undiluted sunlight filtered through his skin despite it all. It radiated into Genevieve with an oddly euphoric giggle that sent Credence into a comforting reassurance... Genevieve took advantage of it.

Carefully, slowly, she swept him into her grip. While they stood, she positioned him gently as the exposition of their dance approached. Then, with a sweet smile, an oh-so weak smile, Genevieve pointed her wand toward the old, web-infested phonograph and let the needle drop at the magic. In an instant, music drifted through the once stale air and assaulted their eardrums with a beautiful drum.

"G-Gene... I don't know how to dance" Credence announced quietly. Yet, Genevieve simply pressed their foreheads together before pulling him into confidence by saying:

"It's just swaying side to side... See?".

After that instruction, Genevieve pressed their hips together and guided his to undulate from left to right. Each movement felt right and familiar. And somehow, amongst the noise, their minds ran quiet as their eyes buried in each other's.

They were trying to find purpose in their suffering. And they surely did as this short expanse of time drowned out two days of torment. They may have been littered in scars and burned to ash but they were still diamonds in the rough. Now, the lovers had to fight their way through the darkness to find the power they deserved. But, power could wait.

"You know-" Genevieve began from the serenity, "- when I was younger I never thought this would happen let alone meeting you. And I don't know if I love you but, I know I couldn't imagine a world without you. So don't you dare think about leaving me".

Throughout her speech, Credence worried until the last word, where an uncommon grin split from between his lips.

He shook his head in reply.

"Good...-" Genevieve smiled into a nod, "- it would be embarrassing if you rejected me after everything".

"S-So does that mean I'm yours?" Credence quietly questioned against Genevieve lips.

"Yes, and that means I'm yours too".

From there, against the swaying music, Credence and Genevieve melted onto one another. Their arms were tangled and bodies closer than before as they continued to run skin over skin and silently travel against each other's bodies. The scene from an outsiders perspective was one in a million. Together, they lightened the atmosphere surrounding and impregnated it with a new-found serenity. Everything around them later seemed unclean and tainted against the comparison of that moment. In all it's being, the scene substituted itself into two days of time. Over the Wednesday and that Thursday nothing but misfortune had fallen upon the two. But these were the moments that outshined it all. From this bubble nobody could see through to understand the gestures between the Obscurus and dark witch. Much like the circus itself nothing was as it seemed. No story behind the two could reveal truth or light, only shadows came from rumours, nothing valid.

"Nothing's going to be perfect Credence" Genevieve announced with a sigh from the silence. "But... We can always make it perfect. Once we escape and find your Mother -your identity- we can build a home and the dreams we dared to imagine will become reality... Maybe we'll even teach you magic".

"I can learn?" He questioned with an excitement.

"Of course and I'll teach you all there is to know. You're a wizard, a strong one. Together we could do anything".

"You promise?" He asked as he flickered his ink pools up to Genevieve. He peered through his lashes with a subdued yet wild anticipation for the future.

"I promise. We'll have nothing to fear, no one to hurt us... It'll just be me and you; together forever".

"That's sounds nice".

"It does indeed. And it will be all for us" Genevieve added greedily before pecking his cheekbone and continuing to sway to the quieting music. It was fading like their nightmares.
