I was looking forward the rest of the day being somewhat normal, and I was also feeling famished. Thankfully, it was lunch hour.
I met the boys at the table and Sylvia was already there chatting it up with Drew. I knew they had a thing for each other, I think. Christian had an exam he had to make up now because of the fact he skipped it to be with me during second hour. I'm so glad we're on better terms again.
Monty sits directly across from me today and we make semi-awkward eye-contact. We still haven't talked much. I know I should start up a conversation with Monty, but instead I turn to Ty, Joey, and Tristan and ask them about their weekend and how it ended up going. Monty rolls his eyes at me and hardly seems to be part of the conversation.
I finally open up to him. "How have you been, Monty?" He gazes at me intently before answering me, "Good, the exams are a lot harder this year though, not fun." "What were you up to this weekend?" I ask, genuinely curious. "My dad and I . . . we went for a bike ride to our family cabin and the lake. Stayed the night and came back the next day." I ask, "Bike-biked or motor-bike?" He smiles a little, "Motorcycling." I raise an eyebrow, "Sounds like a good time."
I almost thought I'd have a peaceful lunch until I saw the likes of Brock approaching our table, for a second time this month. As if it's his sixth sense, Monty immediately turns to face him. "Oh jeez," he says. I see the other boys tense up, as if they're ready to pounce on him at a moment's notice. Monty pipes up at his arrival, "What? You want another round of detention, bud?"
Brock seems more calm this time, "No. I want a fight. Tonight. 9PM at the docks."
...............
After school's out, I wait ten minutes to let the stampede fade out.
Ten minutes later I'm at my locker grabbing my stuff and putting on my jacket. I finally brought one to school. I have to talk to Christian about this fight, but I haven't seen him around yet.
Monty is on his way over to my locker, we're the only two left in the hall. "Hey, any signs of Brock?" he asks. "No, he's stayed off my case the rest of today," I say in relief. "Good," Monty mutters. "Is that all you wanted?" I ask.
It seems it was the wrong question to ask, Monty sways forward, catching himself millimeters bodies are touching. Before I know it, he's kissing me again. And this time, he grabs my face and his kiss...it's much softer and warm. It says, I want you. I hardly kiss back, but apparently he's satisfied with it when he says, "That's the other thing I wanted."
With that, he walks out the heavy doors of Westview High.
