At lunch-time, my friends and I are all gathered around the table. We're chatting about anything and everything, and I feel very happy. I didn't know you could feel this happy.

I see Drew sneak his hand under the table to hold Sylvia's hand and I can't help it and say, "Awww," out loud. They both blush and immediately let go of each other's hands.

Drew holds her hand again a moment later.

Christian kisses me on the cheek, and for once, Monty doesn't roll his eyes. Monty slides me a Dew. "Thanks," I say, smiling.

Christian tells us about the volunteer event coming up at his church this month and invites us all to come. "It's really worth it," he says.

I pause and say, "Let me think about it."

After the school day and my shift at the Full Mug, I get home and see my family drinking hot cocoas and catching up about the day on the couch. I go over and give them each a hug and go mix my own hot cocoa. I stare out the window, in wonderment, of all the things that have happened to me in just a couple months. I made it through another move, and I think I've become a better person since. I smile at the thought that each day is a chance to be a better version of yourself.

Christian taught me that.
