five years later
luke hummed as he carried in another set of different sized boxes through to what would soon be the living room, and dumped them on the floor.
michael came through shortly after, placing his on the floor beside them, and grinning at luke. "that's the last ones." he said with a cheeky smile.
luke rolled his eyes and punched his fiance's arm gently, letting michael envelope his arms around him and cuddle him as they stood and looked around the new house.
it had big stairs, huge rooms, and was three storeys high with an attic. michael was certain it even had a basement that they hadn't been told about underneath them as well.
luke sighed and rested his head on michael's chest, wondering.
"what do you think maia will think of the place?" he whispered softly.
michael smiled at that and looked down at his soon-to-be husband. "she's going to love it." he promised.
luke smiled at that and stayed in michael's chest.
as if on queue, there was the sounds of a car engine outside, stopping outside the house. luke and michael walked slowly to the door, and liz got out of the car, holding their precious daughter in her arms, smiling happily.
"i hope you don't mind boys, if everything's finished, she was desperate to come and see the place." liz beamed, placing the brunette down.
maia ran over to michael and hugged his legs. "missed you daddy." she mumbled.
"aww, i missed you too hunny." he picked her up and kissed her cheek.
luke felt as if his life was complete.
he was engaged to michael, and he had a perfect three year old daughter that they'd adopted, and she had beautiful role model for a grandma like liz hemmings.
his life had all fallen together and in place,
and all because of michael clifford.
as luke finishes the next few days with putting things into maia's new bedroom, and he finishes decorating their new family home, he has to wonder what life would be like if he hadn't of met michael.
he looks across to the other side of the room, where michael is colouring in with their daughter on the floor, and he lifts his head to smile at luke.
luke has to wonder what would have happened if he didn't help michael become sober from drugs and drinking three years ago.
would he have found maia?
would michael be alive?
"i'm going to go talk to your dad, alright baby?" michael kisses maia's forehead and she hums happily, too focused on her colouring in to care about the world around her.
michael gets up and walks over to luke, kissing him and pulling him close.
luke hears him whisper the words he's heard day in, day out for the past five years.
"i love you," michael whispers gently.
and luke's world is complete.
