Chris's POV
I had taken my motorcycle out of our apartment building's garage and rode it out into the country. Melissa had taken the car out to a meeting spot. I wanted her to get a feel of riding in the fresh air rather than in the city. I parked my bike at a small gravel parking lot at the side of an obscure highway. I sat on my bike as Mel's car pulled up five minutes later. She stepped out of the car wearing skinny jeans and a light sweater. I had worn a leather jacket just for the fun of it. She saw me and laughed.
"Leather. Really?" She chuckled.
"What can I say? I want you to have the full experience." I smiled back at her and she walked up to me. I placed my hands on her waist and she wrapped her arms around my neck. I leaned in and kissed her. I could feel her lips curve into a slight smile as they pressed against mine. I stepped back and started to take my jacket. "You know what, I want you to wear it." I draped the jacket over her shoulders, the sleeves empty.
"Ugh, I feel ridiculous," She said looking down at herself.
"No, you don't, you look pretty," I said. She blushed and kissed me one more time before picking up the second helmet.
"When we crash you are paying for my medical bills," she stated with certainty.
I scoffed, "When we crash?! I'm offended." I smiled at her.
"You know what I mean. Now let's get this over with." She mounted the back of the bike and I got in the front seat area of the bike. I placed my helmet on my head and she wrapped her arms around me.
"Just in case this goes bad, I love you," Melissa said jokingly.
"Again--offended!" I looked back at her anyway, "I love you, too."
Melissa's POV
Chris revved the engine of his bike and I rolled my eyes. He could tell I did because I heard a small chuckle. I held on a bit tighter and we took off. At first, my heart was pounding. I was genuinely nervous. I had always heard stories of how dangerous motorcycles were, but holding onto Chris made me feel safer.
At first, we were at a moderate speed, not going much faster than the very small amount of cars we passed by. The engine growled and I squeezed Chris's chest. I felt the wind ripple across the jacket, like a veil of cool air skimming across my arms. My pounding heart started to slow, and Chris started to speed up. I thought I would feel scared, but instead, I felt happy. Pure joy filled my heart as I grabbed onto the man I loved as we zipped around the highway. I felt a smile stretch across my face and I giggled. Chris yelled over the noise of the bike.
"I told you it would be fine!" He yelled
I didn't want him to be right, but he was. I could sit there forever as we zipped past the rest of the world. So many times I wanted the world to disappear around us, to vanish and leave only Chris and me so being with him was the only thing that mattered, and now that was coming true. I felt his chest expand and contract. I felt the outline of his abs, the warmth of his stomach.
"Woohoo!" I yelled out, throwing my hands in the air. Chris laughed and sped the bike up. I held back onto him and laughed. I wanted to capture this moment. To remember it forever. Some people say that love fizzles out over time, that one day the butterflies in your stomach would leave and that special feeling would just be a memory. But I couldn't see that ever happening to me and Chris. I was so in love, and I knew I could feel that way forever.
