Melissa's POV
The surgery was a success. I made it, and I woke up to Chris's shining smile. Of course, I had to do some intense physical therapy at the hospital for some weeks, and after that, months of regular physical therapy twice a week. But I slowly gained my life back. Chris and I bought the cabin down in Washington, something I was so scared to do before, but now that I knew I would be marrying him, I was confident that it was right. Maybe soon we could get a real house together. Have a family.
We spent our very first night in the cabin the day after I was done with all the physical therapy. I looked out the window, my arms crossed. I was wearing one of Chris's long sleeve, button-up shirts, the collar untucked. The shirt was long enough to conceal the simple underwear I was wearing, and my hair messy from the night before. I looked out the window, looking at the flowering trees, birds passing by and resting on the branches. I could hear the shower turn off, and Chris getting his towel. He walked over to me, his upper body still a little wet from the shower. He put his hands on my waist and kissed my neck.
"Good morning," He whispered in my ear in between kisses.
I smiled, "Morning." I turned around and put my arms around his neck and pressed my lips against his. The kiss was passionate, reminiscent of the night before. Before we got carried away, I leaned away.
"We need to start wedding planning," I told him.
He groaned and I laughed. "Do we really have to? Why can we just elope or something, just the two of us? We can be married by tomorrow night if we really want!"
I chuckled, "Because I want our families to be there! Plus, ever since I was little I wanted to have a big wedding, and the last time I got married he wouldn't let me do that."
He looked down, a little annoyed that I mentioned my last marriage. I placed my hands on the sides of his face and tilted his head back up again. "I just want everyone to know just how much I love you," I said. I leaned back into him and kissed him, he let out a small moan.
I backed out of the kiss, but Chris leaned him, his mouth hovering over mine, wanting more. "You know if you keep kissing me like that we can do anything you want."
I smiled and kissed him. With my mouth hovering above his I whispered, "Let's plan the wedding."
"Anything you want," he whispered back.
Chris's POV
After the vacation, the wedding planning was in full speed. In between shoots for Supergirl, we would be in our trailer making decisions for the wedding.
We sat on the couch in the trailer, her legs draped over my lap. She had a tablet in hand while I played with Farley's ears who was laying on Melissa's lap.
"Ok so, we have cake tasting on Thursday, so, for now, we need to decide the invitations." She scrolled through all the invitations on the tablet. "The planner I hired gave us some templates, we can look through them" She added.
I could feel her thinking for a few moments while I continued to play with Farley, but soon enough I heard her make a small gasp.
"What?" I asked playfully.
Without saying anything she turned the tablet to face my direction so I could see the template of the invitation:
Join us at the union of Melissa and Chris
Future Mr. and Mrs. Wood
I couldn't read the rest because I was so surprised. "'Mr. and Mrs. Wood?" I inhaled deeply, still so surprised.
"Mr. and Mrs. Wood," she repeated.
"You know, it sounds really nice when you say it," I told her sweetly.
She chuckled, "We never really talked about it I guess, but I suppose I like it too.
I watched her as she flipped through more templates. I loved seeing her so happy, and I loved thinking that I would be with her for the rest of my life. Suddenly her face completely turned and she nearly threw the tablet down. She quickly got up, covering her mouth with her hand and clutching her stomach with the other.
"What's wrong?!" I asked starting to get up.
She shook her head and ran out the door heading for the bathroom trailer. I quickly followed and opened the door to the bathroom she was using. She was bent over the toilet, throwing up. I knelt down to hold up her hair and pat her back. When she was done she sighed and rested on the wall of the bathroom. I moved her hair out of her face.
"What's wrong? Are you sick?"
"I feel fine otherwise. It was pretty sudden." Melissa rubbed her temples. I sat there thinking before jolting my head up.
"Wait do you think you may be--" I started.
"But we used protection"
"Yeah, but they aren't fool-proof."
"I mean," she looked overwhelmed, but hopeful. "I have an extra pregnancy test, you know, from the last time I was-"
"Where is it?"
"Cabinet above the sink."
"I'll go get it, stay here." I rushed back to her trailer and searched for the pregnancy test. I couldn't believe it. We had lost our chance at a baby before, but now we could have it all.
I ran back to the bathroom and handed her the test. She used it and we waited together. The entire two minutes I kept checking my watch.
"Checking the time won't make it pass any faster," she chuckled.
"I know, I know, I'm just anxious."
She paused for a few moments, "What are you hoping it's gonna be?"
I let out a huge sigh. What did I want the result to be? I slid down the wall and sat next to her on the floor. "Well, I guess-um-" She looked over at me. I could feel her staring and my face, furrowing her brow. "Last time, I was devastated when we found out we lost the baby, and I surprised myself." I turned to look at her, "I think I want it to be positive. I want to have a baby with you." She smiled so wide. Anything would be worth seeing her smile. I leaned in and kissed her. When we separated she whispered to me. "I really want to have a baby with you, too."
I kissed her one more time before checking my watch. "Well, that's two minutes."
She nodded and picked up the pregnancy test that was placed to the lip of the toilet. She looked at me one more time, and I put my arm around her, pulling her closer to me. Hesitantly, she flipped over the test. She looked back at me with tears in her eyes before holding the test out so I could see. It was positive.
