Still feeling low and worried for M, J came home to an empty and dark apartment. There was no food on the table or 'evidence' of activity in the kitchen. In the refrigerator was some potato salad from the previous night so J had that for dinner. He sat and ate quietly, looking at the present he bought for M which he was going to leave on the dining table.

Their one and only bathroom was at the end of the hall, closer to M's door. J knocked at M's door and listened for any response. J thought he heard a soft sob or sigh so he gently turned the doorknob which was unlocked. "M? I'm coming in..." he announced as he pushed the door open. The desk lamp glowed softly and J saw what appeared to be the top of M's head under the thick comforter. Buddy bear was now lying on its side, under the covers, too. "M? Pangga?" J softly as he entered the room. The things he saw earlier were still in their place except for some clothes that were haphazardly thrown over the chair and M's backpack, which was open, on the desk. It looked like it had been rummaged through.
As J approached the bed, he saw that M was hugging the bear, her face buried in its neck. J was about to turn to leave M to 'sleep' when she sobbed softly.
