housemates 13 -- changes

"...we reviewed your performance after 5 months into this team up with Nurse Mendoza..." Dr. Agoncillo said when he joined Carlo and J at lunch.

"...I have to get back to the clinic...see you later, Doc, Dude..." Carlo said as he bade the two, goodbye.

"...later..." J replied.

"...the kids and parents are very much satisfied...sabi nga ng mga nurses, hindi na daw Dr. Sungit ang tawag sa yo..."

J shyly smiled with his head bowed.

"...hmm...may gusto ka kay Mendoza ano?" Dr. Agoncillo asked.

"...pretty..." J said softly. The din in the cafeteria was slightly chaotic for Dr. Agoncillo to hear this.

"Hmm...nga pala, how was your move to your new apartment? Isn't closer to the hospital than the last one?"

"Yes. It's actually walkable..."

"Pero nagdadala ka pa rin ng car?"

"Minsan...mga 2-3 times a week at kapag umuulan..."

"Ahh..."

"...hinahatid ko sya..."

"Sya?"

"...si..." J caught himself and changed the subject, "Doc, yung case ni Macky Arguelles..."

"Sino? Okay na yung kay Macky, na-transfer na sya sa private room sa kabila..."

"Wala po...ah...bacterial diarrhea kasi...baka mahawa yung mga bata sa ward..."

"Hmm...at varicella (chicken pox) din kaya inayos ko agad yung transfer after ma-confirm na yung blisters nya ay sa varicella nga...nasa isolation na muna sya..."

"Okay..."

"So, sino siya?"

PAGING DR. AGONCILLO...DR. REYNAN AGONCILLO...PLEASE PROCEED TO THE PEDIATRIC ANNEX

The speakers blared and cut their conversation short. "...let's talk about this more tomorrow..." Dr. Agoncillo said as he left the cafeteria. J breathed a sigh of relief and walked back to his clinic for his afternoon consultations.

Although both M and J didn't want to announce their 'status' to the public, their actions gave them away. The nurses on the pediatric floor noticed how happy and helpful J had become over the past months since he and M started working together. It wasn't an abrupt change but changes were noticed in the more subtle actions they did. For example, the once grumpy and scowling Dr. Sungit now smiled more often and usually wiggled his eyebrows at Nic. He also started randomly greeting people along the hallways and in the ward. Dr. Sungit used to walk ahead of Nic and huffed if she was 'slow' (he deliberately walked faster and with big strides), now J walks almost side by side with M or walks just behind her.
