housemates 17 -- clinic

"This is Ate Monina, she was the highschool classmate of my cousin, Ate Penny..."

"G..good afternoon..."

"Good afternoon, Richard...have a seat...so, Nic here said that you have a rash?"

"...well...uhmm..." J shifted his gaze from the doctor to M to the floor.

"...don't worry, it's nothing to be ashamed of. Rashes like these happen and the sooner we treat it, the faster it should go away..." Dr. Monina spoke gently.

J explained where his rashes were and how he felt. She opened a file on her computer and showed J what she suspected he might have. "...but it would be better if I take a look to be sure..." Dr. Monina gave him a gown in plastic bag and pointed him to the bathroom at the other end of the examination room behind the doctor's office.

J took the package from the doctor but did not move. He suddenly felt self-conscious and wasn't too keen on having the doctor see his pubic area. "...it's okay...kami lang ni Nic ang kasama mo sa exam room...do you want Nic to help you in the bathroom?" Dr. Monina smiled. She was quite motherly.

"...bakit nung ako kanina sa bahay, okay lang sa yo?" M said as she locked the bathroom door while J began undressing.

"Ehh...ewan..." J said as he put on the gown.

"O, yung pants at brief mo..."

"...pati brief?"

"...saan kasi yung rashes mo?"

J reluctantly peeled off his underwear. M took it from him and folded it together with his other clothes.

"Ganito pala ang feeling ng naka-gown..." J said as he felt quite naked especially at the back when M turned him so she could tie the gown. J immediately held the back close as they walked out of the bathroom.

Dr. Monina patted the bed and J sat on it, consciously fixing and smoothing the gown over his thighs.

"...please lay down and move down so that we can put your legs up on the stirrups..." M draped a sheet over J's lower half as Dr. Monina instructed. She then handed M a pair of gloves. She was also wearing a pair. Both M and Dr. Monina put J's legs on the stirrups. Dr. Monina then moved the stool she was sitting on closer to the bed and pulled the lamp closer. "...relax...I'm going to touch the area okay?" she said as she examined J. J was nervous so he held on to M's hand and squeezed it when he felt the doctor's touch. After a few minutes, the doctor asked M to help J off the bed. "...you can get dressed..."

"What you have is called Tinea Cruris better known as jock itch...sa Tagalog, hadhad. It's a fungal infection characterized by a red, itchy rash. There might be a feeling of burning in the area as well. With what I saw, you also have flaking and peeling skin. All these are classic symptoms. It's good that you came in early because it can last for months if it's not properly treated."
