"I never thought of you as vindictive." Nick voiced stopping by the red light. Shaking his head in wonderment.

"What could I possibly be in your head more than an ass and a pair of legs?" She answered derisively.

He rolled his eyes not amused by the jibe. "For someone who's asking for my help! You ought to give me some respect "

Decidedly resistant, Katrina answered with her arms wrapped around her torso.
"I'm not. He deserves everything that's coming for him."

"And, if you asked me. I don't see any proper cause for what you did" Nick continued uncaring about her contempt.

"Good thing I didn't then" she felt like he wasn't listening, does anyone?

"I'm serious Katrina! What if he remembered? No.. he will remember... What if he told someone and his daddy came after you? What then? Ah. I can't imagine what would happen! What the hell happened back there is bat shit crazy I know you know that!" Nick was the first one to suggest that Matt could forget that anything had ever happened, why was he taking it back now?

Katrina kept quiet, studying her nails as the car moved along the traffic.

"And seriously, if Rose did move on with her life why can't you?" Nick further probed, his eyes studying her instead of the road.

She exhaled sharply, agitated
"You know nothing about her! Don't act like you do"

Nick's eyes widened. Taken by surprise.
"I guess I know enough to not act like a total stalker "

She gulped, "Good for you"

"I just can't understand how you thought that that was the best way to handle it. And I'm not talking about the head injury. Lord let us pass through that. I'm talking about all of it, the reason you went there in the first place tonight. What were you thinking?"

//

"what was I thinking?
Nick Hammond didn't need to ask me that.
I asked myself the same question over and over again and couldn't get past the thing that settled in my chest. That orange, moist and liquidy thing.

And as his car parked by my house I had just the right thing to say. "

//

"I know this is difficult to ask... It's just with Rose... it's different. She used to be so different you know that? I don't think she got over what happened. I don't think she ever will... and putting it all on Matt's shoulders probably sounds ridiculous but is understanding just too much to ask?? Oh, God forbid if she let me!

Ugh.

I don't know, I guess what I'm sayin is... if it was me. I'd want from someone to stand up for me. Ok?  One way or another" she wasn't by any means looking at Nick while speaking, although felt the air shift from her over-indulgence , especially to a guy she didn't know the basics about.

Nick sighed beside her, looking ahead at the dim lit street. His scrunched brows the only indicator of his turmoil.
The humming of the vehicle nursed their agitated moods for quite a while.. bringing Katrina close to some form of tranquility, and Nick to a conclusion.

"Okay," he nodded.

So it seemed she wasn't listening.
"I'll help you" Nick sounded louder.

"What?"

"I'll help you drag Matt Whitteker faced-down. No matter how long and how far that would take you" Nick grinned as the words slid out of his tongue. Offering his version of an olive branch.

"You sure?" She asked skeptical. She didn't ask for that specifically, but she didn't mind the enthusiasm.

"It's not like I got anything else to busy myself with?"

Katrina rolled her eyes, a smile creasing up her lips. "Smarta**"

//

"Maybe I should have mentioned this by now. But Nick and I. This wasn't our first rodeo." She gestured with quotation marks "To tackle innocent bystanders down".

Us two had played pranks on almost everyone at school. Even the janitor couldn't get a pardon ticket. Out of our group I was the only one to put up with his prankster side when it gone too far and not to mention put gas on its fire. We worked well together. " Katrina smiled, remembering the better times. As if their timeline together caught up with her, her smile fell.

"I only saw it now. How little Nick realized my seriousness about it, or maybe in his foolish mind he thought he could control it, whatever plan I'd come up with.

He thought he'd control me.

Look how that turned out?" Katrina grinned cynically, teeth widespread and dimples shown, although her eyes not showing any sign of humor.
