"You mean, what shit happened after? Well...

A lot.

You see, these things might not seem important to you. But they are! You have to understand my involvement in it." Katrina sighed. The wheels in her head truning. "And you didn't even tell me your first name yet. I feel like we're friends now. It's such a rude thing to do to a friend don't you think? and to think Timothy said you're the nicest of them bunch"

"Mallory."

"Mallory. Easy on the tongue. Suits you just fine.

So Mallory. The next morning I found Nick Hammond lurking by my locker, asking me what to do. So naturally, I laughed at him and tuned him out for the rest of the day. But comes night. When the hour had struck eleven and my parents retracted to their room was when I dialed his phone number.

//

" won't you look at that! So you ignore me for the day and then booty call me at night? Quite the respect I get from you Wolfe"

"Don't mention it. Listen, you know Ruby's Jelly? Where we gone out to celebrate your first win last year?"

"Yeah?"

"Meet me there"

"Wait! Do you have a ride?"

"I'll figure something"

He exhaled, exasperated "I'm picking you up" and cut the line.

Katrina pursed her lips and moved to get her jacket and head out as discretely as possible.

//

"You're asking why the extra measures? At that hour I was kind of dying for a slice of pancakes and thought why not have it while designing the best scheme of my life. Because the best of plans only come up when your tummy is satisfied take that from me. why else would Nick and I always conduct our prank meetings at lunch, it was only proper." Katrina swallowed her throat feeling dry. She's calm now at least. Poised to the idea that everything could turn out just fine.

"I'm thirsty dear, may I trouble you with some water?" Detective Melrose nodded making no attempt to move from her seat. The young girl prepared to throw a tantrum that'd put her nine year old cousin to shame when another detective had walked in with a bottle of water in hand. "that wasn't strange" she deadpanned, reaching for the bottle.

"Well we were planning on finishing this within an hour, two max but since we've been here for about" Detective Melrose spoke checking her watch "four. I strongly recommend you wrap it up Wolfe. I don't have all day" no patience at all just like her cousin.

"Maybe he has" Katrina gestured at the man standing in the corner. "You have time to listen to me. Don't you?"

The man stared at her quietly as detective Melrose huffed and got up to leave.

"You're too groomed to be a detective though." Katrina stated smirking, once the door was closed.

She was rewarded with a small unbothered smile" I didn't know detectives were unkempt"

"Not unkempt, just not too" she studied his attire "picturesque"

"Alright, District Attorney Simon Michaels" he stretched his hand to shake hers as she returned the gesture.

"Why are you here district Attorney Simon Michaels?"

"I kinda want your help with something" he sat in front of her, his bulky physique taking quite the space. "All this idle talk had led nowhere. I'm on a tight schedule, and so is the entire precinct. So help me out here. You say you have something juicy for me. Why not lay it down quickly, maybe then I could give what you want some thought. "
