"Aa.. how did it start?" Katrina asked sheepishly.

"That's a difficult question to answer.

When on the other hand. I might be able to answer you that." She continued, relieved to be given the opportunity to explain things from the start. It was a tough ride, but eventually the detective 'Timothy's second cousin' relented to hear her side of the story. And all she needed was that. They'll see.

Katrina shifted in her seat, tracing the veins on the other woman's forehead.

"I was a fifteen year old foolish child. and really how couldn't I be?" She snickered humorlessly. "You know with two -hardly a good model- sisters ,I kinda had to be.

It was a warm middle of May night. Mom was working late. Sophie sleeping upstairs and Rose was out. Rather, I thought she was out." looking up, she took a deep breath.

"So there I was watching TV -I kind of take advantage of those nights to stay up late and do whatever I want- And that was when Rose came running downstairs, her footsteps thundering on the hardwood. At first I was terrified because I didn't know who it was, it could be a murderer already done with Soph for all I heard, but when I looked, there she was, grinning at me like a maniac. And right away I knew what she wanted"

"No"

"Please???"

"No, last time mom took away my TV hours!"

"Come on Kat! She won't even know. I've been trying for ages to go out with this guy! And this is the last time I ask you this! Promise."

"Pfft. I bet you've only met him like yesterday!" Little Katrina gestured, outraged.

"Like a guy this hot would go un-spotted in such a small town? Please Kat!" Her sister whined.

"How cute is he?" Katrina squinted her eyes, the newly developed, all feminine side of hers making a rare appearance.

"Pretty cute" Rose answered grinning.

"And you'd go to the dancing contest with me?"

Her sister rolled her eyes nodding.

"Fine."

"I love you" Rose cooed smiling, her breathtaking smile while squeezing her three years younger sister and then gone out the door.

//

"You might ask why I didn't tell her to be careful or be okay. Why I didn't ask where she was going or who was that undoubtedly cute guy?

All these questions had gone through my head the next few weeks while mom was crying in her bedroom and Dad and Soph were grilling me for the hundredth time. Sophie had taken a leave from work that month to take care of us. You see mom was facing a breakdown and I, my last days of Middle school.

I was a pretty foolish child. When Rose came back a month later a lot of things had changed. I was a grad, the house never empty and she was no longer smiling. Three years ago, is when it'd started"
