"It was the way the night unraveled. We might as well have signed our death certificate.
It's a hard thing to do, to bargain for your life.
So I think the distraction of fulfilling our end of that deal saved us the traumatic after effect.
I mostly mean myself by that....Nick looked like he needed a hug or two.
While I'd made a deal with the devil! So no amount of hugs were saving me.As much as I wanted to, I didn't have a dancing clue of what to do, moreover I didn't want to do anything.
And Nick, couldn't afford to get into trouble with his all star record. It kind of left us with a white flag .. left me! With a white flag and a pack of god knows what."
She stalled looking around the room. "well, I knew too. It was heroin.
See, this thing covers that too, right?"She didn't read the paper throughly. Something about immunity from prosecution was there -which was the most prominent to her- there were other things she didn't understand. Katrina tardily realized how handy it would've been to have a good lawyer present, although she wouldn't come across as innocently naive as she hoped she would.
"Sure" Katrina received an unbothered -more like an annoyed shrug- that couldn't ease her anxiety.
She breathed audibly.
Alright... As a recent visitor to the land of adulthood, she could get through this without the need for a decent lawyer nor her parents knowing anything about it. She prayed she could. And if she had to take up the witness stand, she'll deal with that too. All in good time as Murphy once said.
Her mood suddenly darkened, reminded of the limited options she was faced with. Reminded of Murphy's expectations.
"Okay.... as I was saying we thought we saw Matt die. That was the end of that. Drop dead like the sack of burnt out hay he is. That was sad" Katrina frowned, "but not out of the blue. You know? Matt, from an early age played with the wrong crowd. For the wrong god if you know what I mean"
"No I don't actually"
Katrina exhaled, her turn to be exasperated "his demons held the rein, the mayor had done about everything in his power to cover up his son's tracks but dammit was it stinking.
And I just had to follow the smell; drugs, money and dead kids. Our fast ride was- shit. We got too deep, swam too far. We saw him die!!" Her lips quivered, for longer than a minute she remained silent regaining her composure.
But then she broke down.

Mallory Melrose watched with contempt across the glass as the young girl wiped her eyes and nose quietly sniffling. Her cashmere sweater taking the toll.
She exhaled, a bit ashamed feeling somehow it was her fault. :Look sir, I'm not sure about this. She's trouble. I don't think giving her a deal could get us anywhere, plus she's always been an attention-
She looked at her colleague who was still lost in his thoughts, his gaze unwavering, taking a sip from his cup.
:mate, you there?
:What? Sorry I wasn't listening.
: I was saying when that's what you get when your cousin cash out a favor, I just didn't imagine you'd be more...
She gestured
: willing.:yeah well. How many times have we been handed a crucial witness like that heh?
:I don't know about crucial....
