"It comes like a hot rush gushing you out of the tunnel and into an oil contaminated river.

Excitement that is. And then you realize you're drowning and the water is too heavy to lift you up to the surface.

Murphy was something like that. With him around, there was no air left to breathe.

And talking about death is pretty relevant, knowing him like I did, it was right around the corner. Like a Monday's morning. Or a free slushy after a terrible meal. You're waiting for it to come, good or bad.

We fell under the spotlight after that night. I told you about us two following Matt. That was stupid.

And me calling it stupid is something."

Katrina took a sip out of the water bottle.

"So we fell under the spotlight that night. Nick and I. I guess creeping and sneaking around wasn't one of our unique qualities. Because forty minutes past midnight we were standing by an electric fence feigning ignorance or rather begging for our lives. Tsk. Strange how that night played out. Until this second I can hardly believe I made it out alive."

: "that's a nod you're bound to regret. "

Katrina spluttered in a hurry, her tears had long dried to reveal a glint that gave her words some credit.

:we're not any two teens, you'd find dead in a rut.

She looked at Nick with his split lips and most likely broken nose searching for encouragement.

:You don't know his dad.

Or mine..... we're not ones you can easily brush under the carpet.

All hell will set loose. I can promise you that.

Katrina gave, the blood from her head wound unable to blur Matt's side. Because in the corner of her eye she could still see him scraping his teeth, ready to sell them out, she was sure. The wheels of her mind rolled faster, she needed a stronger argument.

:it's not like I can tell you I didn't see anything.

Nick exhaled forcibly beside her.

:well, we did. Ain't no going around it.

His gun rose again, at first he opted for his fellow men to finish the deed but she seemed to be making matters worse by Murphy, the tick of his jaw was a dead giveaway. Katrina thought she needed to get to her point real fast, with the barrel of Murphy's gun aimed at her forehead she needed to make it good too.

:but we can offer you something better.

She looked at Matt pointedly.

:what's he got against us?

We got here, that's gotta mean something. Not any two could pass your makeshift security back there, You know that. We're an asset you're bound to use.

Willing nonetheless."

Right then it occurred to Katrina how patient was that man, he let her finish her piece without any interruptions or flying bullets for that matter and his men clearly didn't share the virtue. She swallowed her fright and waited. His calculating eyes were still measuring her for the longest time.
