Three days had passed since Michelle showed up outside David's mansion in tears, and she's been staying with them ever since. She had told David that the reason she needed time away from Jay for a little while was because they had a pretty serious argument. She refused to specify any further detail from that, which left David feeling like she was hiding so much more.

It was 8:30 am in the morning. David stood inside his kitchen as he watched Michelle and Stephanie eat the pancakes he had made them from the counter across the room. Whenever he gazed over at Michelle these past few days, he could tell how badly she was trying to hide what she was feeling with her usual smile, and it hurt him to know that she was feeling somewhat unhappy. Someone so beautiful like her deserves to always have a smile on her face, and if he had been selfish and hadn't given her up, he would've made sure that she had kept that genuine smile each and every day.

Michelle giggled at something Stephanie had whispered in her ear, before looking ahead to meet David's gaze. She quickly flashed a smile at him, but instead of smiling back like he always did, he stared at her worriedly, causing the smile on her face to slowly disappear.

"I'm gonna go use the bathroom" Stephanie spoke up, quickly finishing up her pancake, before hoping of the counter.

As she quickly ran out the kitchen and towards the flight of stairs, silence filled the air for a brief while as Michelle lowered her head, avoiding meeting David's gaze once again.

"Well I should probably go help Steph get ready for school" she uttered, clearing her throat. She placed her plate of pancake down on the counter beside her and turned to walk out the kitchen, but stopped midway. "I'm fine, David, really... you don't have to worry about me all the-

"I know you, Michelle" David sighed, rapidly cutting her off her sentence. "Look I'm never gonna stop worrying about you, okay. Even if things resolve between you and Jay and you both end up getting married and having kids... I'm never gonna stop worrying about you" he muttered the last bit quietly, whilst gazing over at her deeply.

Michelle gazed back at him heavily as her throat started to become heavy and fill up. As David saw the look on her face, he immediately regretted saying what he just said. It wasn't like last year where he could just say anything to her, it was much different this time as she was now in a relationship with his son.

He sighed to himself and slipped his hands inside his pockets before speaking up to clear the awkward tension. "Look, I'm sorry, I-

"Its okay" she smiled, interrupting his sentence. "Thank you" she muttered, and with that she slowly turned around to walk out the kitchen as David ran his hand through his hair frustratingly

He turned back around to sip the coffee, whilst hanging his head low in regret. Michelle turned back around to peer at him. She opened her mouth to speak up, but quickly shut it, deciding it wasn't the best time to ask what she was about to ask. How would it look asking the father of the son who she was in a relationship with if he still loved her after all this time. It would've definitely created more awkwardness and high tension that she wasn't sure the both of them could handle. They already had to pretend that nothing happened between them whenever they saw each other, so she certainly didn't want to make things worse.

~Hours later:

David sat in his office behind his desk as he listened to Steve discuss about the company's profit, whilst gazing down at his desk.
