It was Sunday afternoon and David and Monique were driving over to the restaurant in which she was meeting her mom in.

David removed one arm of the steering wheel to turn on the radio, before glancing over at Monique. She gazed frantically out the window not saying a word. She had been silent ever since they got in the car to leave, and David could feel how nervous and agitated she was. It was one of the things he had managed to easily pick up, but he couldn't blame her. She was about to come face to face with the woman who brought her into the world only to throw her away from her life fifteen years later.

Seconds later, Monique turned back to look at David as rock music began to play on the radio. "I never knew you listened to this type of music" she muttered resting the side of her head on the window as she gazed up at him. "You seem like the type of man who spends his time listening to slow classical music".

David turned to glance at her and chuckled lightly before speaking up. "Well there's a lot you don't know about me" he smiled, before making a 'U' turn. "When I was a teenager I was a big fan of rock. I even died my hair orange and only wore all black for a month once. I was also in a band, but it lasted only for a little while. " he uttered as a smile started to slowly appear on her face.

"I'm trying to picture what you look like with orange hair" she said, before shutting her eyes and covering her eyes with her hand.

"I don't think that's a good idea, I looked very embarrassing-

"Too late, I already pictured it... and you do look very embarrassing" she laughed as David quickly reached over to try and remove her hand from her face. The two played around with each other for a little while, but once Monique noticed that they were close to arriving at the restaurant, the wide smile on her face began to slowly disappear and she was instantly met with the bitter and anxious feeling she felt previously.

As David parked his car in the parking lot, silence began to fill up their surrounding. The look of horror plastered across her face almost made him want to start up the car again and drive away, but he knew that she had to face her mother no matter what, he just didn't want her to feel the pain and anger that he knew was to come afterwards. He felt the need to protect her in so many ways, but he simply couldn't decide things for her.

"I'll wait in the car" he muttered quietly, before gently rubbing her shoulders.

Monique gaped up at him for a brief second, before turning her head to look over at the restaurant. To think that her mom was inside waiting made her head spin and heart ache. She was feeling so many emotions right then that she felt she was gonna collapse at any moment. She nodded her head at David, before stepping out the car and taking a deep breath. The walk towards the restaurant felt like an eternity as millions of thoughts ran through her mind. Would her mom be able to recognise her? did she still look the same after all these years? and why did she wait almost a decade to find her after everything? Her hands began to shake as she tried to control her heavy breathing.

As she was about to head inside, she paused for a little while to think back to the night her mom had threw her and her sister out of the house. She remembered it like it was yesterday. Jada had no problem leaving since the two had never gotten along, but the shouting and furniture breaking that occurred that night was enough to haunt her forever.

Seconds later, she spun around to look back at David's car, before building up the courage to turn back around and walk in.

She crossed her arms across her chest as her eyes roamed around the room frantically for a brief while, till she finally spotted her sitting near the back whilst gazing over at her with a look she couldn't quite understand. She looked very different than she did ten years ago, she looked cleaned up from all her drugs and alcohol usage and more importantly she looked healthy.
