"This is bigger than you, Mai. It's the headquarters, we're going up against the entire army." Whitebeard said.
"I'm well aware of that, but he's still my brother. I may be one person, but I'm still strong." You said, getting defensive.
"I know you are, Ace would tell me constantly. That boy would never shut up about his older sister and younger brother. That's why I can't let you go with us." He said, taking a gulp of his sake.
"And you don't think he would feel guilty seeing one of his own crew members get hurt because they're trying to save him? You know he'll blame himself for it! You're being just as selfish as I am, old man!" You pointed a finger at him.
"Mai, calm down," you heard Marco say, as he tried to get near you. You turned towards him.
"Don't tell me to calm down! I have every right to be angry! He's my brother before he's your crew mate and yet you guys won't even take me with you to save him!" You yelled at Marco now. Marco could only let out a heavy sigh, knowing that you won't give up easily, an unfortunate trait that your family has. You turn back towards White Beard and let out a sigh.
"I'm not the same girl that you met 5 years ago, I've grown and have gotten stronger. Why won't you just take me with you? I'm already on your ship for gods sake!" You said, your voice rising once again.
"I know you've grown, but this isn't a fight you want yourself and your crew mixed up in. You already have a high bounty on you, with this you'll just become an even greater enemy to the Navy," you heard White Beard explain. Before he could say another word, you cut him off.
"I know that. I know that it could put my crew and myself into greater danger, but we're pirates! It's going to happen anyway. Plus my crew won't be apart of this battle, they've already set sail to the New World. It'll just be me."
"You do realize how idiotic that sounds, right? You're going to war without your crew, it's a suicide mission," Marco piped in.
"But I'm not doing this alone, I'm going with all of you," you defended.
"And what makes you think that? I've already told you no, little girl." White Beard boomed.
"Because I know you're going to take me anyway. If you weren't, you would've sent me off your ship the first day I landed on it." You spoke calmly and confidently.
White Beard let out another sigh and rubbed the bridge of his nose, he looked back over at you to see if you truly meant everything you said. That look of determination is one that he's seen before, and knows that it won't falter. You continued to glare at the mountain of a man when he suddenly spoke up,
"Marco, get a room tidy for our guest. If we drop her off on some island I doubt we'll ever hear the end of it," White Beard let out with a smile.
You couldn't help but to beam at the old man. You jumped up and hugged him, thanking him.
"But Pops -"
"No buts, honestly we could use that devil fruit of hers to ensure Ace's rescue. It'll help out more than I'd like to admit, but Mai is strong enough to take care if herself on the battlefield." White Beard explained before Marco could protest once again.
Marco led you through the ship towards the women's dorms,
"Just because Pops is letting you join us in rescuing your brother doesn't mean I necessarily agree with him," Marco sighed, "ah geez now we have to deal with Ace trying to lecture us about you getting hurt. What a pain." He scratched his head. You couldn't help but chuckle a bit at the thought of Ace trying to lecture someone,
"I don't know what you're so worried about. I'm a good older sister, it's my duty to make sure none of my cute little brothers get hurt. And to be completely honest, I'm sure Ace will get distracted by food or something before he can really say anything to you guys." Hearing this made Marco let out a hearty laugh.
"Oh yeah! I can totally see that happening!" He continued his laughter, you joined in by letting out a few giggles of your own. His laughter can be quite contagious at times.
The two of you continued down the halls, chatting away. It seemed that neither of to really noticed how far you've walked until you were in front of the door.
"Well, this is you," Marco turned towards you, "you'll be staying here for the time being. We should be arriving to Marineford within a day."
"Thanks, Marco. I really do appreciate you all going out of your way like this.." you said.
"Well you kind of didn't give us a choice. Hell if Pops still said no I thought you were going to try to start something."
"Who, me? I would never!" You chuckled, causing Marco to give you a playful grin.
Marco left you to settle into your temporary space and to let you prepare for what's to come. Knowing that this fight, no, war was only a day away made you anxious to arrive. All you wanted was to rescue Ace and get back to the open seas without worry. The fact that he was even captured in the first place still had you in shock. You walked around the small room to gain your bearing. It had the essentials, a bed, a small desk, a small dresser, and a bookcase. You looked out the window that was above the desk, watching as the waves crashed against the ships side. You started to think about all the times when you were younger and how Ace had to teach you about survival out in the woods with Luffy, and how Ace had to save you when you were in trouble. How things have changed since then, and now it's you rescuing Ace.
"I'm coming, Ace.."
