As I moved closer into the belly of the beast I notice that students had their phones out and were talking to each other. I stopped, starting to feel a bit panicked, being in crowds made feel like I was drowning. I could feel my pulse racing. I took a deep breath to calm me, unfortunately, I just got a lungful of body spray. I started coughing, I felt as though I may faint, but I knew that if I did I'd be known as the girl that fainted on the first day of school. A few heads turned my way but I pretended not to notice.

The only good thing about that was that the smell distracted me and I had to focus on not fainting. Once I was steady I closed my eyes and pretended that I was home with my books. I calmed down immediately. I took out my phone and texted Alice. But then remembered that it's 8:00 am here so that means that it's 5:00 am in Washington. So I took my earbuds from my bag and listened to some music while waiting to go inside.

I wanted to make friends but I was shy. I didn't know anyone and it's not like I was a chatterbox. I was quiet. Once I got tired of my playlist I went on to read my favorite book.

I was just at the part where the girl found out they were going to Amsterdam when I noticed people around me walking inside. I yanked my earbuds out and stuffed them and my phone into my backpack. I walked inside anticipating the many distractions to come my way. Everyone climbed the steps with heavy feet. Everyone except me, that is. I wanted to bolt up the steps taking two at a time and if it wasn't for the flood waters of students, I would have.

The crowd numbers eventually dwindled, many people having escaped on the second floor. It was still pretty packed so I watched my feet as I climbed the steps. I was a bit clumsy and didn't want to be known as the kid that started the pile up in the stairway. Once on the third and final floor of the school, I walked to my homeroom. My homeroom teacher's name was Mrs. Casie. She had brown hair and a nose ring. To be honest she was pretty chill and of what I heard she was the teacher everyone wanted. And here's a plus she didn't make me introduce myself at the start of homeroom. I was still the undetected new kid. I mean I was there obviously but no one noticed me which was my hope.

There were sixteen kids in my homeroom. Including, from what I could tell from the flood waters gathered outside the school, were the popular girl and the popular guy. After homeroom, I headed to my first class which was Algebra. Algebra was across the hall from my homeroom so I headed there with my books.

There were many tables in the class with four chairs seated at each table. Math had never been my best subject so I took my seat at the back of the class. Four people in my homeroom walked in two of them sat together and the rest went to various tables. Soon all the tables were filled. I was sitting across from this boy who had walked in as the bell rung.

He was wearing a grey short-sleeve shirt and red athletic shorts. He had written his name on his binder, it was Ashton. Ashton had brown wavy hair. It was short and stood at attention at the top of his head. His hair swooped like a little arch and stopped just before his forehead. He had green eyes.

He hadn't spoken a single word. I decided to pay attention to the teacher and pay him no mind. I wouldn't speak until he did. He didn't speak the entire class period. Although while filling out the questionnaire I noticed him steal a glance or two when he thought I wasn't looking.

Finally the bell rung. Everyone gathered their things and exited the classroom. I headed to English dazed. Why wouldn't he talk to me? I mean I know I'm the new kid but that's no excuse to not talk to me! He was so rude I couldn't believe it. I kept thinking of him. I went through my classes like a zombie. Walking there without remembering how I got there.

It had been a month and I was still stumped. I planned to ask him why next time I had math.
