Chapter 5

"Sophia, guess what?" Emma said to me one day while waiting to enter the school.

"Your celeb crush is going to take you to Paris?" I said.

"I wish." She said staring off into space probably thinking about how awesome that would be. "Anyways, no I'm inviting you to my house for a Christmas party. It's December 16." She said animatedly.

"That sounds awesome but I don't even know if I'll be able to go and you know me. I'm not really the party type." I told her even though she knew I didn't like parties.

"Please," she said smiling, "It's just gonna be a small gathering of people from our math class."

I took a deep breath and rolled my eyes. "Fine, I'll ask my mom if I can go." I conceded.

After school, I went home and did my homework. A little while later my mom got home and we had dinner. "Hey, mom?" I said.

"Yes, sweetie?" She replied.

"Um...Emma invited me to a Christmas party at her house on the 16. Could I go?" I asked.

"What time is the party?" She asked.

"Uhh." I said I would have texted Emma but my mom had a strict no devices rule during dinner. "I didn't ask. I checked my calendar and I don't have anything on that day and I checked the family calendar and there's nothing scheduled."

"Ok, you can go." My mom said finally conceding.

"YES! Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, you're the best mom ever!" I replied smiling.

After dinner I texted Emma to tell her that I'd be at her Christmas party. I then got in the shower and got ready for bed. While brushing my teeth suddenly felt like I was about to faint. My legs felt like all the strength was drained out of them. I grabbed the sink for support. I stumbled over to the toilet and sat down. I rested my head on the cool porcelain sink, I gulped for air as the edges of my vision started to go black. I closed my eyes for a second and breathed in deeply.

After about a minute of that, I felt better. I stood and then went to bed. I did not tell my mom, because if I did then I wouldn't be able to go to Emma's Christmas party. I'll tell her after the party. I then reluctantly climbed into bed.
