Crash!
"Dammit!" Mila frowned at the broken machine, it having slipped out of her paws when she was relocating it. Making room for another project she had in mind.
"Mila?" A voice asked a few moments later, knocking on the door. "Is everything okay?"
"I just dropped something, don't worry about it," she answered, gathering up the broken parts.
A human opened the door, young in age. Haven't reached his twenties yet.
"Here, let me help you," he offered upon noticing the small mess, entering the room.
Mila frowned, but couldn't protest, he would ignore and help anyways.
This was a spare storage room in the house, a perfect place for her machines and tools. They weren't as important as ones in her hideout though, just small fun projects. Nothing big or serious.
The boy, Viceroy, enjoyed helping her make the gadgets. He was intelligent if he could remember so much as his name.
Mila was travelling when she found him, lost and unable to remember much. She'd thought he hit his head. But Viceroy was born like that, poor memory right from the start. His mother named him after her favorite butterfly before passing, errors during birth. Leaving his father, Merlin, to later find out about his son's memory issues.
Mila escorted the kid home, every couple of minutes having to remind Viceroy her name and where they were going. He never did completely forget what he learns, he just needed a spark. Merlin was ecstatic when his son came home, crying and thanking Mila for bringing Viceroy back home safely. He offered her a place to stay, food to eat, company.
She took his offer, Mila had nowhere else to go, her home had been destroyed when she was gone. Everyone dying a long with it.
Her friends, family, all she'd ever known was gone.
Viceroy and his family filled that gap for her, giving her something new. More projects, new materials, and technology. Her first project being a visor for the son, altering brain's electromagnetic and adding to it. It took a while and multiple prototypes, but in the end, Viceroy was given a normal life. Mila receiving more tears and appreciation from the both of them.

"There," Viceroy set the small machine onto the lowered tabled after putting it back together, some parts still a bit loose.
"Thanks scrap," Mila chuckled, stepping back. "I left my extra arms at my base, too lazy to get them,"
"Can't we make more?" Viceroy offered, hope in his masked eyes.
"Eh, I don't like remaking things. Give me time to think of a newer more advanced version of it," the cat shrugged, puffing out her yellow fur.
Viceroy frowned, knowing full well Mila isn't the best with keeping motivated. Lots of half made projects were strewn about, him being the one to finish it most of the time.
Viceroy didn't mind, it was fun.
"A traveler arrived not too long ago," he said, pointing to the door with his thumb.
"Oh? Interesting, are they a human or weird creature?" Mila asked, leaving the room.
"Kind of both? They look like a human, but blue skin, glowing white hair and eyes, covered in white spots... I didn't talk to them, I just saw them during my walk in the park," he replied. "I overheard some conversations about them coming from space,"
"I feel like I've seen someone like that before on my travels... Maybe," she quickened her pace, waving her tail as greetings to Viceroy's father as she passed by the kitchen.
"I'm curious if they have any new technology," Mila meowed, letting the young adult open the front door for her.
Viceroy laughed, watching her exit.
"You like anything related to technology," he said. "I remember how excited you were about my phone only to claim it was 'weak technology,"
"Well that was before I knew it was connected to this thing you call 'internet," Mila huffed, motioning Viceroy to follow. "You coming?"
"Oh, yeah I'm coming!" He exclaimed, quickly leaving the house and closing the door. "Just follow me, they're probably still at the park,"
"I know where the park is," Mila chuckled, but followed anyways. Telling him all about the different ideas she had. And will most likely not finish, but she didn't add that detail.
They crossed a few streets, keeping to the crosswalks, and reached the park. It's grass was well taken care of, even if trampled on a daily basis, peed on by dogs, and crushed by bikes. It remained green and lavish, soft on her paws.
Children played around on the slides, swings, and other play set pieces. Their parents or guardians watching on nearby benches. On the other side of the park were multiple round tables, strong large umbrellas for shade. Grills nearby for anyone wanting to start a cookout while their kids play.
Straight ahead from the park was a giant library, unexplored by Mila. She wasn't that interested in reading unless they were blueprints.
Viceroy scanned the area, quickly spotting a small group near the round tables, one being the odd blue person he mentioned before.
"They're over there, you can't miss them," he said, Mila's ears perking up.
"Meet you there!" She chuckled before bounding away towards the group.
"Greetings!" Mila meowed, slowing down as the people greeted her back.
"Is that kid with you?" A man asked, pointing to a nervous Viceroy.
"Yeah, he's a bit slow don't worry about him," Mila answered, looking back to give her friend a reassuring smile.
"So, you're new here?" She turned her direction to the blue human, their eyes glowing white orbs.
"Yeah, I won't be here long though. Just checking up on the universe and its inhabitants," they replied.
"He's a Celestial Beast! They travel the galaxies and can live up to a million years old!" A young woman exclaimed, visibly excited to be meeting this alien.
"Name's Apollis, I was given a short list of places to check up on. This one's the last one," Apollis said, neither looking excited to be here, or annoyed. He almost looked a bit tired.
"Mila, nice to meet you," The cat purred and dipped her head. "I hope I didn't interrupt anything when I got here,"
"Oh no no, I was just telling these three how OCTown was like. The last place I've been to," Apollis answered, glancing at Viceroy who'd just arrived.
"Mind if we join? You don't have to start over," Mila asked, her friend looking confused on what she's just requested.
"I don't mind," the celestial responded, the young woman looking excited. The third person patting her shoulder to calm her down.
"Anyways... Where were we? Right the fountain," Apollis remembered, sinking back into his memories to continue his adventure. "I was at the fountain, relaxing. I've never felt more at peace there... Until it was interrupted of course," he sighed, irritation flickering on his face.
"Did you get attacked?" The woman gasped.
"What? No not physically, just attacked by questions. Some orange cat nearly bowled me over, asking me a hundred things per second," Apollis shuddered. "I knew she only means good intentions, but wow she's a scary handful,"
Mila's ears twitched, a little thoughtful.
"So you were attacked!" The woman's eyes stretched wide as she grabbed his arm.
"What is he talking about?" Viceroy whispered.
"Shh, he's talking about OCTown,"
"What's that?"
Mila shrugged. "I dunno, so shh!"
Viceroy nodded quickly, falling silent.
"She didn't hurt me, just startled me," Apollis told the woman, frowning and clearly disliking her as he pulled away.
"She had a friend too, some robot cat. She was much more tolerable if not relatable," the celestial chuckled as he relaxed.
"I don't think I remember her name..."
"Do you remember the other one's name?" The man who spoke first asked.
"Hmm give me a second, I just might remember," Apollis said, going silent.
Mila listened, interested. There was only one orange cat she knew years ago; she couldn't possibly be alive.

"You're leaving again? So soon?" Viceroy asked with a pout.
Mila nodded, double checking her room if she had grabbed all she needed.
"I'll be back, don't worry Viceroy," she chuckled. "It's OCTown, the way Apollis put it, it's one of the most peaceful places to be at! I'm not going to die or anything,"
"Can't I just come with you?" He offered hopefully, only to be disappointed when the feline shook her head.
"I'd like to go alone, though maybe I will take you another time? Even your dad if he's up for it," Mila returned.
"I guess..." Viceroy sighed. "When will you be back?"
Mila shrugged, unsure. "Maybe a day, maybe a week. I don't really know. I guess it depends on what happens,"
"Why do you want to go there anyways? Did Apollis make it sound that interesting?"
"No..." The cat shook her head and padded to the door. "There's just someone I need to meet there,"
"The cats he spoke about?"
"Maybe," Mila opened the door and left, waiting for Viceroy to follow. Even if he can't come along, she'd at least like to have him there when she leaves. As anticipated, Viceroy was quick to join her. "Why do you want to meet them" he was questioning as he came through the door.
"You'll find out when I come back," Mila mewed, heading to the living room for space. Viceroy groaned.
"Don't get all pouty Viceroy," she chuckled. "I'll even bring something cool back just for you, how does that sound?"
"You don't have to,"
"Well I'm going to. I'll even get your dad something too," Mila purred, pressing a button on her neck band to open a portal.
"Can I at least get a hug before you go?" Viceroy begged, opening his arms.
"Of course you can," she laughed, turned around as her friend dropped to his knees, wrapping his arms around her.
"Have fun out there, okay?" He said,
Mila patting his back with a paw, purring. "I will. Maybe I can find some cool places to take note of so we can all check it out,"
"That would be nice," Viceroy agreed before letting go.
"See you later, Viceroy," Mila meowed, turning back to the portal.
"I'll be here," he responded, waving as he watched her tail whisk into the portal.
Mila stepped down onto the warm concrete sidewalk, ears twitching.
She looked around at the interesting place before her, startled by its variation.
"So this is OCTown..?" Mila thought, waving back to a human with giant feathered wings.
For years Mila thought she and her brother was the last of her kind, carrying the guilt of keeping her technology secret.
Only she knew how to make portals with ease, and instead of sharing the extraordinary information to the king and queen. She kept it to herself and left. Traveling the worlds for years on end.
By the time they had returned to their hometown, it was nothing but a barren wasteland.
Mila left her brother when that happened. Only ever seeing him if he'd happened to be at her base. Other than that, she was a loner. Until she met Viceroy and his dad.
But now, the news that someone else had survived the fall of her world excited her. Not just anyone, but someone she knew.
Mila flagged down the nearest person, asking for directions which were easily given.
"Thank you!" She purred at the fish like human, turning and bounding away.
A giant mansion, that's where she lived all these years.
Many questions were brewing in her head. How did she look now? Had her personality changed? How did she get here? Was there anyone else besides some robot? So many.
But only one mattered.
Mila slowed down and padded up to the entrance, slightly intimidated by its magnificent design. A small ladder was by the door, a button above it.
She took a deep breath and rang the doorbell.
"Will she remember me?"
