"Great gods, you're acting like a child! Calm down!" Cat demanded in OStar's head as she paced around the main room.
"But Ethan could still be alive! He could be out there somewhere, damn, that box could be a message! He could be trying to tell me where to go to find him!" she meowed aloud, too shaken to keep things in her mind. It didn't matter anyways, nobody was going to hear her.
"But who knows how long that box had been sitting there, he could've died shortly after leaving it!"
"He could've, but without any proof, I am not believing it,"
"May I remind you that Ethan was a guess of who could have left it?? Maybe his parents left it, or Shane, or Boston!"
"BOSTON!" OStar nearly shrieked, recognizing the name and the face that could go with it. She turned and sprinted toward the front door, making it halfway before her legs suddenly locked up and she froze on the spot.
"STOP!" Cat roared in her ear. "WHAT IN STAR'S NAME ARE YOU DOING?!"
OStar shook her head, trying to pry Cat's control away from her legs and move once more. "I'm going to Boston. He's here, I just need to find him," she hissed, her irritation growing quickly as Cat tried to control her.
"Are you CRAZY? He left shortly after you were made, he may not even recognize you!"
"We won't know until we meet him ourselves," OStar huffed, pulling herself forward and regaining control. Cat was grumbling and calling her an idiot, but OStar simply ignored her. Cat wasn't the boss. She was usually encouraging her to get her memories back anyways, so that's what OStar is going to do.
Opening the door, she quickly slipped outside to a cool morning breeze, the sky light blue with only a few clouds. It wasn't going to rain today.
There were more people around than the last time OStar was out, that was a good thing. More people meant a better chance for Boston to be around.
"You do remember how Estella didn't know him?" Cat suddenly meowed.
"Yes, why?"
"She remembers everyone here. Why not him? Maybe because he doesn't LIVE HERE!" Cat snapped, making OStar flinch.
"...It never hurts to look. I don't know why you want me to stay at the mansion so bad," she hissed silently, continuing onward.
"The others will eventually come back, and they will have the box. If you wander off and get lost or something, well, say goodbye," Cat replied with a snarl.
"And you say I overreact," OStar rolled her eyes and ignored anything else Cat said, really wishing that Pargenti would talk instead.
She headed toward the traders, the last place she could remember seeing Boston, or hopefully who she thought was he. OStar would never leave the mansion again if she were to go up to some random innocent stranger and ask him if he were Boston. She shook off her growing anxiety and continued to look, trying to find the familiar black hair and dark brown trench coat. OStar was so busy looking around, she completely forgot to watch where she was going, running into someone. She yelped while he squeaked in alarm.
"Sorry, sorry!" OStar apologized quickly, shaking her head and looking up. He was certainly shorter than Avaro, with slightly tannish skin and curly brown hair. Instead of normal human ears, he had large brown bat-like ears on his head. And he had no eyes.
This man had no eyes whatsoever, not even sockets for where they should be, just eyebrows. OStar stiffened in fear, wondering if he were able to see her. The strange man looked around and squeaked, ears twitching before they angled down, making him turn and face OStar. "Hello?" he asked in a most definitely non-hostile voice.
OStar remained silent, unsure what to do as she slowly started to back away. She tried her best to remain silent as his ears twitched. He was certainly blind, using his ears to take in his surroundings and picture it inside his head. He didn't appear to have lost his eyes at some point in his life, it looked more like he was born without them. Eyeless.
Not the strangest sight OStar had seen, but it did catch her off-guard.
The man frowned when there was no reply, looking around more before giving up with a sigh. She felt bad for taking advantage of his blindness, but chit-chat was the last thing she wanted with a stranger. The only person she wanted to chit-chat with, was Boston, obviously.
Once at a safe distance, OStar sat down to breathe, gathering herself together.
"Great job out there," Cat laughed.
"Shut your mouth," OStar growled back, keeping her irritation from spilling out onto her face. It wouldn't look too good if Boston first saw her with a snarl on her face.
"If he ever sees you,"
OStar ignored her, getting back up.
She had no idea how Cat could suddenly talk so easily in her head, she hoped it wouldn't last forever. Cat would drive her mad before the month was over.
A small shiver ran up her spine, feeling dread at the thought of Cat staying in her head for the rest of her life.
"Maybe I can shut her up with medication or something..."
"You wish,"
Again, she ignored the voice.
OStar glanced back at the man she'd bumped into, freezing on the spot.
Someone had come over to talk with him, someone with black hair, a dark brown trench coat, and grey eyes.
OStar practically gasped in surprise. That was him! That had to be Boston, the one she had seen when she was with Avaro and Lucerne.
He was looking around, frowning as the bat-eared man spoke. She hoped he wasn't talking about her.
OStar got back up onto her paws and slipped back, deciding to watch and wait for Boston to walk away. But to her dismay, they walked off together. Perhaps they knew each other, or maybe that odd man was Shane.
"Idiot, Boston was described to look similar to his dad. That freak looks nothing like him in the slightest!" Cat started to say. "Not only that, but Boston also looked older than that guy. How could he be his dad?"
"All right, I get it, shut it now," OStar grumbled before following the two. She was too far away to hear them, but she didn't care. She just needed them to stop somewhere, preferably at Boston's house. It would be better if they split and went their separate ways, but her gut feeling told her that wouldn't be happening.
"He couldn't see me, he would have no idea it was I who bumped into him. Who cares anyways? I did say sorry," OStar told herself, making sure to look normal and not like she was creeping. The people of OCTown were usually kind, but that didn't mean they wont see OStar looking like a troublemaker.
"I am just seeking answers, not trouble," she silently told them, not expecting any of them to hear.
The pair ahead swerved off to the right and vanished, making OStar rush forward to the corner. They were still there, just walking at a faster pace. She took a deep breath and quickened her own pace, realizing there were fewer people down this path. In fact, OStar had no idea what place this was, she'd never been here. Based on the houses around her, she could only guess this area was more like a residential neighborhood, making OStar wonder why Estella's home was practically in the middle of the town.
They continued, almost at the end of the row of houses before turning in at one. They walked down the path and onto the porch, the bat going in first before Boston. How Estella had failed to meet him, OStar had no clue. It was obvious that he lived here now.
"I love how you only focus on Boston when it's clear this could be his friend's house. Boston is simply visiting which is why Estella never met him," Cat meowed some more, making OStar want to smash her head into a tree. "I would also love to have my own thoughts for once without some nuisance commenting on everything."
Cat only chuckled.
"Where is Pargenti? Can I talk to her?" OStar asked, stopping just a block away from the house.
"Asleep. She's lazy," Cat answered.
OStar heaved a heavy sigh and gave up, returning to her old plan to ignore.
Pushing Cat to the back of her mind, OStar padded the rest of the way and headed down the path to the porch.
It wasn't a really old house, but it sure wasn't a new one.
She had no way to properly knock besides banging her head on the door, which OStar actually wouldn't mind doing at this point. She looked for some kind of doorbell to ring.
Luckily, there was one, not fancy-looking as Estella's, but still a doorbell. Reaching out with one paw, OStar slapped the button, making a classic ding-dong ring echo.
For a moment there was silence, OStar standing there shuffling her paws awkwardly. Footsteps indicated someone was coming as Boston answered the door, looking around, then down.
For the briefest of moments, OStar could've sworn she saw some kind of surprise flash across his face. But it was so brief she might have imagined it.
"May I help you?" he asked in a gruff, yet familiar voice.
OStar lost her voice. She stared at the man in front of her, knowing all too well she had met him before.
Even if it was all blurry and most of it was confusing, there was no mistaking that voice. The one who had told her to leave.
"Well?" he asked once again.
"Who is it, Boston?" a voice asked from inside, the eyeless man.
"Some cat," he replied over his shoulder. "I think it wants food or something."
OStar just stared, trying to find her words.
"Food? Like what?"
"I dunno, fish? Hey, wait, we're not feeding some random cat who followed us home. Beat it, scrap," Boston said, waving a hand to dismiss OStar before reaching back to close the door.
Cat shoved her way into control. "Dammit, what the fuck is wrong with you?!" she hissed at OStar as she blinked.
"Hey wait, Boston," Cat meowed in OStar's voice, trying to copy her personality. OStar felt nothing unusual, she only felt as if she was doing this herself, only she wasn't.
"What?" he responded, the door half closed.
"Don't you recognize me? I'm OStar,"
"...No." Boston closed the door, or at least tried to. Cat quickly stuck her head into the doorway to prevent it from closing. "Come on! I know you do! It's me, OStar. Isn't Shane your dad? Ethan, your friend? Remember?" she looked up at him, expecting some kind of reaction. But the man only stared back in cold irritation.
"I have no idea who you are talking about. You must be greatly mistaken, just forget about it," Boston hissed, using a hand to push OStar's head back. Cat growled and instantly tried to bite him in defense, making him snap his hand back.
"That's enough!" OStar yelled, pulling herself back in control and staggering out of the doorway. Boston glared at her for a long moment before finally closing the door, ending it right there.
Cat was fuming and spitting curses inside her head as OStar turned and fled the yard, flapping her wings and soaring into the air. She felt dizzy, trying to get her head around what had just happened while Cat screamed. Boston looked as if he recognized her for a moment, but either she imagined it, or he was lying.
"LYING, OBVIOUSLY!" Cat yowled. OStar ignored it, trying to keep herself in the air.
Cat had managed to force herself in control, without OStar's permission, complete and full control.
Cat could've done anything she wanted at that time, or any time.
This was no longer about Boston, she could care less about Boston. This was now about Cat and the power she had developed. The last time OStar could remember Cat taking full control was when stress and fear got the better of her, making her pass out mid-flight. It was logical at that time for Cat to take control instead of letting OStar go splat on the ground. But she had never done it before when OStar was functioning, in fact, she wasn't even able to speak to OStar when she was awake. OStar could recall Pargenti taking control once, but she'd been silent lately, making her worry that Cat may have had done something to her.
She slowly started to realize the fuming voice could hear her thoughts and quickly calmed her mind. But luckily, it seemed like Cat was still too pissed about Boston to have heard OStar.
Breathing a sigh of relief, she scanned the ground for the mansion and angled downward upon spotting it.
She landed softly before heading back inside. Cat had gotten strangely quiet.
"...Cat?" OStar called out, wondering if she had either calmed down or passed out. No reply. A bit of hope sparked in her chest at the thought of a free mind, and she headed over to the couch for a nap. Except, her legs had locked up once again.
OStar frowned, trying to move, but her body wouldn't let her.
"Cat, what are you doing?! Is this you?!" she demanded, her hope melting into fear. Still no reply.
This worried her more.
OStar felt her fear switching to anger, but not her own as she dug her claws into the ground.
"Stop! It's not that serious! You didn't even want me to go see him, so why act out now!?" she yowled in her head, trying to remain in control.
Cat still refused to reply, using her anger to claw at OStar, attempting to make her back down.
But she held her ground.
OStar quickly dismissed trying to talk to Cat and focused on keeping control. She shoved away Cat, hissing as she slowly felt her legs coming back to her. OStar knew she only had a short time as she staggered, looking around.
There, a bare wall.
The idea was crazy, but she was willing to test it out. Cat had now doubled in strength and OStar was trying desperately to get her to stop trying to overpower her.
Cat wasn't going to stop.
She kept control, aiming at the wall and sprinting toward it, every step harder than the last, yet she kept her speed.
Leaping at the wall, OStar tucked in her forepaws and tilted her head down. She waited until the last second to let go of her control, letting Cat take over as her head smashed into the wall.
OStar expected pain, she expected dizziness, she expected...something. But all she got was darkness.
