"Mystic? What brings her here?" OStar thought as they walked inside and closed the door. Mystic seemed to be listening to a story Avaro was telling while Lucerne was occasionally correcting and adding in things. OStar also realized that Mystic was the only visitor from the elemental world. Neither Spike, Blaze, or anyone else came along, unless they were with Rual or Roxxan still out in OCTown.
She backed away and quickly padded to the couch, hopping onto it and sitting down. OStar didn't want to interrupt them as they entered the main room themselves.
"...I got a massive scolding after that, no more collecting and throwing raw eggs like snowballs," Avaro was speaking with a chuckle. "I can understand why though, taking all the eggs will make it hard for birds to grow," he added.
Mystic made a small laugh, "I can see that."
"You can literally see everything,"
"Only futures where I am a part, so maybe not everything,"
OStar flicked her ear. She knew Mystic could see easily into the future, but only ones where she is a participant?
"So she sees the events she is a part of..."
Avaro finally spotted OStar on the couch and waved. "Hey, OStar! Did you just wake up? You slept in pretty late,"
"I woke up a while ago," OStar chuckled, "already ate and everything."
"Whatever you say. Mystic said she wanted to talk to you some more, so we brought her here," the dragon explained, motioning to the purple prophet.
"Me?" "She came to talk to me?"
OStar looked at Mystic, puzzled, but she only received a small smile back. OStar couldn't tell whenever it was important or not, but it felt important. It's not every day a future-seeing creature comes to speak to you alone.
"Yeah, just you, she didn't even want to tell us anything,"
"Well, it's not your business," Mystic simply said back with a purr.
"Whatever," Avaro shrugged and walked off to the kitchen, most likely going to raid the place for some snacks. Again. Lucerne stayed for a second longer before heading off, probably to his room, not wanting to be a part of Avaro's raid and be scolded by Roxxan.
"Though she still might since he could have stopped him," OStar thought before noticing Mystic staring at her.
"Uhh, what is it that you wanted to talk to me about?" she asked.
"Come with me," Mystic replied and padded off in the direction Lucerne had gone.
OStar quickly hopped off the couch to follow, still confused, but didn't bother asking any questions. She knew Mystic wasn't going to answer any of them.
After a short walk she stopped at OStar's room.
"Is this your room?"
"Yes..."
"Can I go in?"
"Go ahead," OStar answered, letting Mystic open the door and step inside. OStar quickly followed and the prophet closed the door and sat down, curing her tail in and over her paws.
OStar sat by her bed and did the same, feeling a little awkward to be stuck in a room with someone she'd only met yesterday, but who also happened to be able to see into the future.
"Is there... Something you wanted to tell me?" she questioned, knowing the answer already but didn't know what else to say.
Mystic nodded, still not revealing anything about the importance of the conversation.
"You remember yesterday, correct? My ability to see into the future?"
"Yes, but only ones where you are a part,"
"Ah, so you overheard that?" Mystic purred.
OStar felt a bit of shame, "S-Sorry, I couldn't help but overhear it..."
"No worries it's fine, someone or even myself would have told you eventually anyway," the prophet reassured, flicking an ear in amusement.
OStar's tails twitched, "Is this what she wanted to tell me? She can only see futures when she's a part of it?"
Something told her that was far from being the answer.
"OStar, you know how to make portals, correct?" Mystic started to ask, glancing at the heart locket.
The white cat nodded, placing a paw on it. "Yeah, the locket makes them when I open it, why?"
"Then you must know your way back to your home,"
OStar blinked in surprise, not expecting that response.
"You already knew you could, didn't you?" Mystic said in a quiet voice.
She did not reply.
The mood seemed to have changed after that, feeling colder as if some talons made of ice were hovering over their heads, waiting for the perfect moment to strike.
"Don't go back, stay here for now, okay?" Mystic meowed, sounding more like a demand than a request.
OStar frowned, feeling the fur on her spine starting to rise. "Why? Why can't I go back to my home?"
"You can, just not right now. You can wait for another month or so, yes?"
"No? Why do I have to wait?" OStar asked with a slight growl, getting to her paws. She wanted to go back home; she didn't want to wait without a valid reason. And Mystic wasn't giving her that reason.
The purple feline got to her paws as well, even the fur along her spine was starting to stand on end. "Just trust me. OStar! I've seen more things than you will ever see in your life!" she snapped, her third eye opening.
OStar flinched and hunched down, realizing Mystic was larger than her as well as experienced.
"I've only known you for a day. You are someone who can see the future and say nothing about it. Why is that? What if you see someone die? Are you going to let them die without doing anything to save them?" OStar hissed, her tails starting to flick back and forth.
Mystic seemed offended by that.
"You don't understand, it's not like that! I have my reasons to be silent!"
"Then what are they?" OStar snarled, straightening back up and taking a threatening step forward. Mystic, to her surprise, stepped back and crouched slightly.
"What. Are. They." OStar said slowly, holding back a growl.
Mystic shook her head. "I just can't... I can't see futures I have changed, and I can't see anything for events I am not supposed to be a part of," she tried to explain.
"What is that supposed to mean?"
"I can't see anything! If I see a future where a cat is found murdered, I can't see a future where I go and try and stop it! I can't tell if I'm killed or anything!" Mystic yowled, suddenly bristling and growing twice her size.
OStar staggered back in surprise, practically running into the bed behind her as her tails curled under her in fear.
"I try to prevent as many bad things as I possibly can without putting myself in danger. If I get now myself killed there's no way to save any of you from him!" Mystic quickly shut up.
There was a long dragged-out silence.
"...Who's him?" OStar asked in a quiet voice.
The prophet was quiet for a moment. "I already said too much," she meowed before turning to leave.
"Hey wait! You can't just leave!" OStar protested, trying to stop Mystic, but she had already opened the door and was walking out.
The white cat tried to follow but the door was closed right in front of her face, stopping her in her tracks.
OStar shook her head and hissed before reopening the door.
But Mystic was gone.
Looking down both the halls, it was empty. No purple fur. She was completely gone.
"What in the world?" OStar frowned, even more confused but now irritation has added to that.
"Where did she go?" she said aloud before leaving her room and quickly running off to the main room.
It was empty except for Avaro who was just leaving the kitchen with a bag of chips.
"Something wrong? Did Mystic leave already?" he asked, grabbing OStar's attention.
"I- yes- no- ah, where's Mystic?" she responded, trying to flatten her fur.
Avaro blinked, "She did leave already?"
"I don't know! She just vanished into thin air!"
"Then she must have portaled back," Avaro answered.
"Portaled back? But she didn't have any portal keeper materials!" OStar protested. The dragon chuckled as he walked over and patted OStar's head.
"Not everyone needs portal keeper materials to make portals. Some just have the ability, like Roxxan and Lucerne. Did you see Roxxan use anything to open a portal?" he questioned, raising an eyebrow.
OStar's ears flattened in realization.
He was right, even though Mystic didn't have portal keeper gems or dust, it didn't mean she couldn't make portals. After the door was closed, she must have quickly made one and left before OStar was able to stop her.
"So what happened? What did you two talk about?" Avaro asked as he opened the bag in his hands.
"...Things," OStar replied, making him frown.
"Oh, come on, what's so bad that it has to be kept a secret?" he replied.
Her only response was to shake her head and pad back to her room.
Avaro stood there with a half-opened back of chips, confused and wondering what he'd said wrong.
OStar retreated to her bed, making sure her door was both closed and locked.
The day seemed to have only gotten worse. Why couldn't she go back home? What had happened?
After what seemed to have been a warning to avoid the place, OStar instead felt a stronger urge to go. She wanted to see if she could find a reason to stay in OCTown, a reason to stay away from her home. To not go back and live there.
Surely going home for a few moments wouldn't hurt? She would even go alone, stay silent and walk around, explore a little. Stay under the radar.
Once she had seen enough, she would return to OCTown and decide whenever or not to take someone along the next time and talk to people, maybe find her family, or old friends.
But not today, OStar was already tired and stressed enough.
"Three days," she thought to herself.
"I'll wait three days, then leave,"
OStar lay there for a moment, thinking over her plan multiple times.
Each time going over it made her determination grow.
Whatever Mystic said did not matter, OStar was still going to her old home. The only difference was that she was going to be more careful and keep her appearance hidden.
OStar had no idea what had happened in her last moments at home. She could be just like Avaro and have been exiled. She had no idea.
"But I'm going to find out, and soon,"OStar didn't leave her room until Roxxan came in to prepare dinner around eight PM. A part of her didn't want to eat, but the last meal she'd had was breakfast. She was starving.
Once the food was gone, rather quickly, OStar sat the plate on a nearby dresser and lay on her back, staring at the ceiling.
She wasn't sleepy yet. In fact, she had no idea whether or not to tell anything to Pargenti. How would Pargenti respond?
Would she try and convince OStar to stay? Go earlier? Or work with her plan, give her more ideas and help.
What would the other one do?
"She would want me to go,"
It was the other cat who told OStar that she could go home and that she would find answers there.
But could she trust that mean cat?
OStar pondered that thought for a long moment.
What if she were just rude, but not downright evil? Maybe she really was trying to help, but her way of helping was to be rude.
OStar had never seen this other cat try and do anything evil. Everything she had done so far was to be rude but give OStar helpful information. No attacking or trying to kill, she just seemed to want space.
Mystic on the other hand, was vague. She brought more questions and gave no answers. Between the two, though quite mean, the other cat seemed more helpful. She was potentially a part of OStar and OStar could trust herself.
She yawned and rolled onto her side, starting to get tired. Maybe OStar could talk to both sides of her mind instead of just one. She might be able to figure more things out that way.
OStar's eyes started slowly to close as she curled up with a small purr.
Three days.
That's all she needed.
