The rest of the day went by normally. Rual alongside Afina eventually rejoined the others and over time the sky started to darken. During that time, OStar did not have any additional daydreams and instead was introduced to how things functioned in the village. Fire elements burned dead plants and waste. Male earth elements built while the flowered females decorated. Wild ones hunted large animals while other elements gathered smaller ones like water to the fish. OStar even learned how all the other Prophets of the village only had small occasional visions of the future, not nearly as strong as Mystic. Mystic had described her power as the ability to open a random book at any page.
It was a nice distraction to OStar as she learned about this odd home and wondered how each had managed to end up here, though when she asked, no one seemed to have known. Guess history really died here unfortunately.
"I think it's about time we head back to OCTown and have a quick dinner before going to bed," Roxxan finally announced as the first stars began to glow in the sky.
Everyone agreed and started saying their goodbyes when OStar remembered.
"Hey Roxxan, is it okay if I made us a portal back?" she asked.
The robot looked confused and slightly annoyed. "...Sure," she replied sarcastically, as if she didn't think OStar could actually make portals.
OStar decided not to take that personally and patiently waited for the others to be ready.
This was the time, finally, to see if this necklace had any use to her at all. Where did she get it? She didn't know, but knowing its purpose might help in the long run.
"Alright, I think we are all set to go now," Lucerne said as Avaro pried Rose off of him and put her down.
"Great, about time," Roxxan mumbled and looked at OStar expectantly.
"...Oh right!" she exclaimed, sitting and starting to fumble with the heart locket.
Everyone seemed to give her odd looks as she took off the necklace and closed her eyes to concentrate.
"Don't let their eyes distract or bother you, just think of the main room and open the locket, easy," OStar took a deep breath and pushed the small button on the side of the locket, letting it fling open.
Nothing seemed to have happened. She didn't hear anything or feel anything, but when she opened her eyes, she was face to face with a silver sparkly portal. It was like Roxxan's except for the color and the fact that wisps of silver and sparkles seemed to come off it.
"Woah! How did you do that?" Afina's voice spoke up from Rual's arms.
OStar quickly slipped her necklace back on and poked her head out from behind the portal, beaming.
"My locket! I figured out what it was!"
"Oh?" Avaro raised an eyebrow, curious.
OStar nodded and padded over. "The book about portal keepers had me thinking. Since some items they make can come as jewelry. So, I decided to see if I could make a portal with mine!"
"Oh, portal keepers! You met one before?" Charlotte asked.
"I guess I did, I don't remember it, but I did, I think," she replied.
"Well it's not Mahalda, she had portal dust, not portal necklaces," Rual said to Charlotte who nodded. "I know I know, I was just asking, didn't even think of her,"
"Hey! We can ask all the questions later, let's go!" Roxxan yowled before walking through the portal.
"OStar your necklace is still open," Afina mewed, making her look down.
"Oops, right, thanks," she laughed, closing the locket, which closed the portal.
Everyone stood in silence for a few seconds before an orange portal reopened and Roxxan stuck her head out.
"HEY! I SAID NO SLEEPOVERS!"
Everyone couldn't help but laugh.
"Sorry Roxxan! Didn't know closing my locket would close the portal!" OStar apologized.
"Well now you do, let's GO!" Roxxan vanished once more.
"Come on guys, before she blows a fuse or short circuits," Charlotte snickered as she headed through the portal. The others quickly followed behind her, Estella going last and waiting for OStar.
"I'm coming!" she meowed, hopping through the portal into the main room with the princess behind her.
Roxxan was already gone, maybe making some quick dinner already.
Lunch had been decent but OStar personally would rather have her pork seasoned when cooked. She had no idea how Avaro ate it completely raw, but if it didn't make him sick or kill him, then she guessed it was fine.
Charlotte didn't eat, no need to, at least that was what she said.
"When I eat, I get tired and sleep for a few days; when I don't, I'm completely fine. So, I don't eat," Charlotte had said.
OStar guessed she understood it. Of all the people here, Charlotte was one of the more confusing ones. Any questions she had she couldn't ask because she feared it might cause Charlotte to become defensive or offended. Made her wonder how she ended up in OCTown, or even how she met Rual in the first place.
But these were all background questions OStar didn't really care about. The ones she did care about were the ones relating to the daydream she'd had about her "brother."
After dinner was prepared and plated, OStar quickly ate and headed off to bed. She made her desire to escape a little too obvious because Avaro, who was usually the first to finish, noticed how fast she was eating and commented how she should slow down before she accidentally ate the bowl. That almost made her choke when she laughed.
Once curled up in bed, lights off, and in pitch black darkness, OStar closed her eyes and let herself drift away.
