"Wake up OStar! Wake up!"
OStar jerked awake, gasping for breath. She was alone in an odd field of tall golden yellow grass. She didn't know where she was, or who was trying to wake her up.
OStar slowly got to her paws, peeking over the grass. No one was nearby.
"Was it a dream?" She thought, but she couldn't remember anything. She doesn't even recall falling asleep.
Some things remained though. She does remember her name, the powers she possesses, how to fly, and general knowledge like how to speak and do math. However, she remembers nothing of where she once lived or the people she knew.
"Do I live here?" OStar wondered, then scowled at the thought.
"I would never plan to live in a random field. Why did I even fall asleep here?" She looked up at the golden sky, assuming it was early morning.
OStar stretched her wings and yawned, then stopped abruptly when a large silhouette of a nearby town caught her eye.
"A town! Maybe I can get some answers there!"
Without hesitation OStar took flight, letting her silver wings catch the air as her paws grazed the grass below.
The town was closer than she thought, or maybe she flew a lot faster, quickly reaching the edge of town.
A chill went down her spine as she got closer.
"A force field of some kind?" OStar wondered, landing softly as she glanced around.
She turned back, blinking at the town and everyone in it.
Instead of normal humans or animals, she was faced with everything and more. There were people of all shapes, sizes, and colors. Some people had wings, tails, and extra limbs. There were animals as well, wolves, cats, birds, odd small dinosaurs, all varying in size, shape, and color.
Everyone was strange here, but instead of feeling out of place or scared, OStar felt at home.
She took a glimpse at herself, twisting her head to look back at her wings and double tail.
"I fit right in... Massive size, odd markings, wings, language speaking... What even is this place?" OStar pondered, facing the town again.
"Are you lost?" A small voice suddenly asked.
OStar whirled around and saw no one.
"Wha-?" She started.
"Down here," The voice spoke again.
OStar blinked in confusion and looked down. At her feet was a small, normal sized cat.
The feline was grey in color with lighter grey spots on her back. Her tail tip was blue and there were blue tuffs on her ears. She even had a blue nose, eyes, inner ears, and a small blue scarf around her neck that matched everything.
"Oh, sorry. I didn't see you there." OStar apologized, suddenly feeling nervous.
"It's alright, I'm used to it. Name's Afina, and you?" The grey cat mewed.
"OStar... What is this place?" OStar asked.
"You don't know?" Afina replied, visibly surprised.
"This is OCTown, people from all different worlds and universes come here to live in peace. Usually, people who come here know why they are here." She explained, looking around at the colorful creatures that walked the carless paths.
"Well, I just woke up here so..." OStar shuffled her paws awkwardly.
Afina blinked once, then turned around. "Roxxan will know what to do with you." She meowed, looking back at OStar. "Just follow me." Without waiting for a reply, the small cat hopped away.
OStar hesitated, then shrugged and started following.
"I don't know who this Roxxan person is, but if she can give me answers, then I guess I can trust her."
As they walked, OStar examined the world around her, the people, animals, and buildings. Most were small shops and homes, only a few were tall and farther ahead. Those were the ones she had seen while in the golden field. The place seemed peaceful. People walked around, chatted, laughed, leaving plenty of room for other people to ride scooters or bikes. But no cars. No one seemed to ride cars here, maybe there was a different mode of transportation.
Afina led OStar to the center of town where there was an orange-colored small mansion surrounded by bushes with stairs leading up to a nice porch. Wind chimes twinkled or spun in the small breeze.
"Is this...?" She started.
"Yeah, this is Roxxan's place. And a few others live here also." Afina replied, climbing up an oddly-placed ladder to ring a doorbell.
"Few others? What does she mean by that?" OStar twitched her tails, a little bit of fear nipping at her.
The door swung open revealing another cat. This one was about the same size as OStar and clearly a robot with dark orange glowing eyes.
"Who-" The bot started, then spotted Afina. "Afina, what is this?" She asked in a shockingly not so robotic voice.
"This is OStar, she's new." Afina explained.
"NEW?!" A high voice shrieked, and another OStar-sized cat shoved her way beside the robot. Her fur was solid bright orange with a set of wings, a golden neck band, golden bands around her paws, and even a cute tiara on her head. Her entire being seemed to glow, and it hurt OStar's eyes just to look at her. The new cat ginned widely at the newcomer, her pupils green instead of black. An odd feeling of deja vu hit OStar, but the robot continued speaking before she could really understand it.
"Uh yeah, Afina brought someone named OStar. Wait just a few seconds for me to get some valid answers before you start asking her what her favorite cake is." She said, nudging the orange cat away.
"She has amnesia," Afina meowed, looking at OStar. "She can stick around here while she tries to figure herself out."
"Wait, stay? But I-" OStar couldn't finish her protest before the robotic cat suddenly appeared next to her and started guiding her inside.
"Wonderful, no point in saying no after you came all this way. I'm Roxxan, if you haven't guessed already." She said in a slightly sarcastic voice.
"I'm Estella! Roxxan and I have been living here for a few years. Then Afina, then Avaro, Lucerne, Charlotte and Rual came along!" The orange cat greeted, fluttering her wings a bit.
"Who?" OStar asked, but Roxxan was already continuing.
"Estella knows everyone in OCTown and we frequently allow people to stay at our place for a short time. There are exceptions for some that are living here, like Afina. So, in other words, you either find yourself and leave to finish your journey alone or stay here with us and we'll finish your journey together."
"I can see it on her face, she's going to stay," Estella grinned, making OStar feel oddly creeped out.
"Can she see something that I can't see?"
"Maybe we should take her somewhere where she can relax first." Afina finally spoke, climbing up onto Roxxan's head.
"Good idea, Afina! Sorry Estella, maybe you can get to know her later," Roxxan replied, and Estella frowned sadly.
The three cats lead OStar down a long hallway, passing by several doors before stopping at one.
"This place is filled with magic, so when you touch that door handle, it will create a room like what you call home." Roxxan explained, allowing OStar to step up to the door.
"Will it hurt?" She asked.
"Of course not. Why would it? Just open the door," Roxxan meowed, rolling her eyes.
OStar hesitated for a second before lifting a paw to pull down the doorknob. It opened revealing a decently sized room.
"A human bed? That's odd. I was expecting like, a giant cat bed or something," Afina mewed from atop Roxxan's head.
"Everyone prefers different things. Let's leave her be," Roxxan responded, turning away.
"Rest well!" Estella added before following.
OStar watched them vanish around the corner before entering her new room.
She looked around the place, feeling her chest turn with recognition.
"So this is what I call home?"
OStar padded over to a dresser and opened it up, empty.
"Would make sense, I don't wear clothes."
She turned away and opened up a closet next to it, empty as well.
"Did I really just have these things empty at my place? Did I even have a place? Or is this just some default room made for someone who doesn't have a 'home'"
OStar shook her head and moved on to the bookshelf on the other side of the room. All the books were unrecognizable and strange, but looked interesting.
"'Portal Keepers and Where to Find Them', 'The Many Universes Outside Your Own', 'Guide to Safely Travel Universes'," OStar read, setting the books aside to possibly read later.
She moved on to a desk with several drawers, this these being filled with art supplies instead of being empty.
"Maybe I'll draw something later..."
OStar turned to her bed and hopped on top, her paws sinking into the memory foam mattress.
There wasn't a window anywhere, but she was fine with that.
"I doubt I'd be able to see anything anyway." She thought, curling up into a ball and resting her head on her paws.
Despite being awake for only about twenty or thirty minutes, OStar already felt drained, and sleep came for her swiftly.
Nothing but darkness surrounded her. The sky was dark, almost black. It looked grey next to the ground which was pitch black itself. A void. An odd smoke-like substance rose from it, but it dissipated quickly and carried no smell.
"What is this?" OStar thought, looking around.
At first, she thought she was in a dream, but then wondered if Afina and the others were a dream.
"Am I even alive at this point?" OStar growled, frustrated by the confusion.
She began walking in a direction that seemed to be pulling her toward it and before she knew it, she was racing through the darkness. Her paws hardly touched the ground as she sped off, wings partially open.
"Where am I going? Why does this place seem so odd yet so...familiar?"
A figure began growing in the distance and OStar slowed down, hesitating.
Something seemed to yank her forward, keeping her from coming to a complete stop.
"Who is that? Why can't I stop??" OStar felt panic rising in her chest as she got closer to the figure. Soon she was able to discern that it was a brown-haired human in a tan shirt sitting in a hunched posture. OStar felt her mouth open as she was about to call out to the man. "Fl-"
"Wake up, OStar! Wake up!"
Once again, OStar jerked awake, this time with an orange cat right in her face.
"YAH!" She screeched, jerking backwards and nearly falling off the bed.
"Oh I'm sorry! I didn't mean to scare you!" Estella apologized, her eyes wide.
"What was-" OStar stopped herself, "She wouldn't know what I saw... That was just a dream I had..."
"What was what?" Estella questioned, tilting her head.
"Umm, nothing. Why are you here?" OStar asked instead.
"Oh, well, you slept through the entire day. I was wondering if you were hungry and wanted to join us for dinner. You can meet the others that live here!" Estella explained, smiling once more.
OStar was about to decline and attempt to return to her dream, but sudden pangs jabbed at her stomach and it growled loudly.
"Uhh, I guess that's a yes..." She meowed.
"Great! Follow me!" Estella exclaimed and whirled around, exiting the room.
OStar quickly hopped off the bed and followed, not wanting to get lost in such a large place. Passing by all the doors from before and through a large possibly living room, she stopped at an open doorway. Estella turned around, beaming.
"Everyone, this is OStar."
