The day continued peacefully. Everyone gathered and spoke in the main room, telling stories, updating on events, eating breakfast, giving future ideas and overall relaxing.
After a while Avaro and Lucerne left to stroll around OCTown while Roxxan left to work in the mansion, maybe cleaning or organizing. Perhaps she was simply searching for something Avaro might have stolen or hidden as a prank.
OStar felt rather left out when the others told her their stories of things that had happened while living in the mansion. Her memory was still locked away deep in her mind, she didn't have anything to share.
Eventually OStar excused herself when Estella woke up rather late. She feared that if anyone was going to ask her a lot of odd questions, it was going to be her.
Luckily Rual convinced the others to let her escape, explaining that OStar may want some time to relax and get used to her new home, which was partially true. OStar honestly just wanted to read a book about the other universes.
Trusting her brain, she managed to make it safely to her room without getting lost.
OStar closed the door, decided not to lock it, and headed over to the small collection of books. Grabbing randomly, she took out one of the ones she had seen the day before.
"'Portal Keepers and Where to Find Them," she read. The words were in gold ink embossed on a dark grey fabric. The book seemed almost handmade with thick pages and when opened, the black ink gave off an odd but pleasant smell. That smell made you want to relax on a beanbag in a corner, reading.
"There is no author..." OStar observed, skipping the first few pages that were more of an intro to what was inside the book. What are portal keepers?
Each universe has a Portal Keeper, whose purpose is to provide those who wish to leave with the materials to travel to other universes. Those who do not believe in Portal Keepers and/or are native to their universe, cannot perceive the portal keeper and therefore have no knowledge of their existence.
Those who do believe and are not native to a universe can see them. Portal Keepers do not age, nor do they need to eat. Each one has their own way of making their portals, whether it's a potion, a special dust, or just a limited-use piece of treasure or jewelry.
If one is native to their universe, it is still possible to find a Portal Keeper if they believe in them and know what they are and where to look. A non-native person will always see a Portal Keeper, whenever they believe or not.
OStar twitched an ear.
"Maybe a Portal Keeper brought me here..." She thought, looking down at the red heart locket around her neck, wondering if it contained any magic which would allow her to step over to the other universes.
A bit of curiosity poked at her and she felt the urge to try and open a portal, but decided against it and continued reading, saving it for another time.Portal Keeper locations
Portal keepers tend to locate near a city, village, or town and some are even known to live in one, though it isn't likely. Portal Keepers tend to take a spot where there are many materials nearby to gather for portal use. If you cannot find a portal keeper nearby, they may be in a different location entirely or even on another planet. Go to page 25 for ways to summon a Portal Keeper to your location.
If you do manage to come across a Portal Keeper, it is best to treat them with utmost respect. Each Portal Keeper chooses their job and could have been working for hundreds of thousands of years. A Portal Keeper can deny your request.
Hina is a well-known Portal Keeper in OCTown, she is located outside of the town near the forest.
Go to page 76 for more information on Hina and other portal keepers.
