To try and cheer OStar up, Pargenti decided to let her talk for the remainder of the night about all the things she'd experienced in the elemental world. All the elements, prophets, and warriors, and how Fuchsia's family was way too pink, and Blaze was like a mini heater. It really did make OStar feel better and when it was time to wake up she said her goodbyes and promised to try and visit more often.
It was late when she woke up, ten thirty, so most of the people in the mansion were already awake.
She yawned and stretched before rolling out of bed and leaving her room.
The main room was empty with no noise coming from the kitchen or dining room, only the smell of food. OStar's ear twitched before she made her way into the dining room. It, too, was empty. The kitchen was most likely empty as well.
"Odd..."
On the table was a plate of food, still warm, with what appeared to be a note next to it.
OStar padded over, sniffing the food but deciding to read the note first."The food is for you, OStar. Avaro and Lucerne left somewhere before anyone was awake, while Rual and Afina decided to go to the trading square. Charlotte is still here doing something, maybe in the arcade. Anyways, Estella and I decided to meet new people today, so we might not be back till later before dinner. If you get hungry take a REASONABLE amount of food, other than that don't get lost. -Roxxan"
After finishing the letter, she left it alone and quickly ate her late breakfast, not understanding how it was still warm. Maybe it was magic, it was OCTown after all, there seemed to be solutions for practically everything.
Once the food was gone, OStar put the empty plate into the sink and padded off back to the hallway of the guest rooms.
Arcade.
That was where Roxxan assumed Charlotte was. But she had no idea where that was and trying to find it might end up with OStar getting lost, which is what Roxxan also said for her not to do.
So maybe just going back to her room and reading a book was a better idea, or even napping to get another chance to talk to Pargenti.
As OStar was heading back to her room she passed by a door that was cracked open. It hadn't been before, so she stopped. A part of her told herself not to snoop, but what if Charlotte was in there? Or someone else?
There was only one way to find out.
Carefully she nudged the door open and poked her head in.
A trapezoid room. A bed across and against a wall, a cushioned chair, closet...
A wave of Deja Vu hit OStar.
She'd felt like she had been here before, recently. Maybe a week or so ago, but couldn't really remember.
OStar frowned and walked inside. It was, not surprisingly, empty. That's when she realized this was probably the room of one of her friends. For the entire time she had been here, not once had she gone into the room of someone else, so she had no idea what everyone else's rooms looked like.
This room seemed normal, certainly not Rual's only because there was no way he could fit on that bed unless he curled up well. OStar didn't see him as someone who would tightly curl up like a cat, though it was a funny thought.
In addition, he wouldn't be able to sit on the chair with his tail in the way. He also liked books, and there didn't seem to be many here.
OStar thought about Avaro, but she knew what room he came out of and it was certainly not this one. Besides, she was fairly certain Avaro and Lucerne shared a room and again, the bed was far too small for two full grown men, one of which had massive wings. Not only that, OStar found it highly unlikely for two "just friends" to sleep together in a small bed when Roxxan can, quite easily, get them a bigger or even separate beds for them.
Roxxan and Estella don't sleep in guest rooms since they are not guests, they own this place. And everything seemed a bit large for Afina.
After a few moments of thinking, OStar concluded that this could be Charlotte's room. It seemed to fit her the most and OStar couldn't see any reasons why this wouldn't be her room. Charlotte must have left her room at some point when OStar was eating and had left the door cracked open.
"That means I must have just missed her, damn it," she sighed, making a mental note to request a small tour of the mansion. That way she would have other places to go to without fear of getting lost.
It was quiet, and for some reason, OStar felt like looking around.
She wasn't going to pry in anything, just have a casual look. There was a slightly crooked framed painting on the wall, which annoyed OStar a tiny bit. It was simply a mountain range by a lake with some forest scenery, quite a happy little painting. She recognized it as a copy of another painting, but didn't know who originally painted it.
Other than that the walls were bare, not even a window. It was kinda sad. At least her walls had decorations and much more paintings.
OStar padded over to the dresser to her left where there was a pile of papers with a small cup holding a few mechanical and sharpened pencils.
All but the sheet on top were blank, the one paper had a few words scribbled on the top line.
"Pay Rual's home a visit soon,"
It appeared to be nothing more than a reminder to do something. Maybe that's what these papers were for, quick reminders.
Though it didn't feel that way.
OStar started recognizing more and more things as she opened the drawer, completely disregarding what she told herself beforehand. Sure enough though, it was filled with unique little collectables, a fancy snow globe here, an odd wooden figure there, quite a few shiny crystals, rocks, and geodes. Just like her dream.
Her dream.
The night she had met Pargenti they had gone into this very room.
OStar looked at the bed. Its sheets and blankets had draped over to cover the bottom of the bed, but if everything was just like before...
She slowly slid over and used a paw to lift the blanket and gaze under.
It was there, a messy pile of papers. It was way more neatly stacked in her dream, but it was there. Hundreds of sheets of paper were hidden under this very bed. A dream showed it to her before she had even seen the room herself.
OStar reached for the papers, wondering what was written on them, if anything at all.
"What are you doing!?" Charlotte demanded, making OStar nearly jump out of her skin and sit up quickly.
"U-Uh," she stammered, curling her tails in closely. Charlotte looked furious, but also scared. "Why are you in my room?" OStar couldn't get out a response.
Charlotte shook her head and moved over to the white cat, "Out! Away from my bed!" she hissed as she tried to shoo OStar away.
The white cat scrambled to her paws and quickly ran out of the room, not looking back.
Charlotte didn't try to stop her, at least OStar thought she didn't as she didn't hear her call out.
She retreated into her own room and closed the door, feeling bad for letting herself snoop and get caught despite telling herself not to pry into things.
She couldn't help it, it was all too strange and familiar.
"She'll understand if I explain... Would she? How would I explain Pargenti?"
OStar thought for a long moment.
"These dreams... They could be keys to my memory. I shouldn't just keep these things to myself, they could be able to help me if I said something,"
She shook her head and turned to leave the room again.
"I'll explain to Charlotte first..."
OStar took a step toward the door, then staggered, suddenly feeling very dizzy.
The world started to spin as she tried to keep her balance only to ultimately fail and flop on her side. The moment she fell over, everything went black. It was quiet and dark.
OStar lay there for a long moment, waiting for the small headache to fade away.
"Wake up," a voice hissed. She ignored it.
"Come on, wake up!" a paw roughly prodded her side.
OStar didn't ignore this time, she jerked awake with a small yelp and quickly sat up.
It was just her room, but dark. Not pitch black, she could still see her bed, but still dark enough that she would likely trip over something if it were on the floor.
In the darkness just off to her side was another cat, who was maybe three quarters the size of OStar. This cat had dark black fur with red tabby stripes, thick white fur around her neck, red wings, and pure black eyes with red slits for pupils.
A shiver ran up OStar's spine. She recognized Pargenti's description of the "other one".
"Is this...?"
"Yes," the cat hissed, flicking her tail.
OStar stayed still, afraid.
"W-What do you want? How did you get here?" she demanded, trying to squish her fear.
"I put you to sleep because you shouldn't tell Charlotte about your dreams,"
"Why not? Wait, how did you know what I was going to do??" OStar shook her head, even more scared now. Pargenti wasn't aware of any actions or thoughts OStar had while she was away, so how did this one know?
"That runt is weak, not nearly as strong as me. It's best to ignore her and maybe she'll fade away or something," the black cat answered, her eyes narrowed.
OStar frowned, her fur bristling more. "What is your name? Why can't I say anything? I just want my memory back!" she hissed.
"Fuck your memory! Who cares about it anyways?" the other snarled back, practically doubling in size when her fur fluffed out. "Say anything and you might find yourself losing every one of your friends. They don't need to know anything. I'm just trying help you from saying too much too soon."
OStar stayed quiet. She felt anger burning inside her, but after what this cat had said, she started doubting herself.
"Is... Is my past really that bad? So bad that they would stop being my friends?"
The look on the she-cat's face answered her question, making her ears droop.
"...If you so desperately want answers, go home."
"What?"
"Go. Home. Lost memory or not. Anyone with the ability to make portals can make one to their home, just trust your gut," she explained before walking to the door.
"Hey wait, why are you telling me this?"
Too late, the cat was already walking through the door and by the time the tip of her tail vanished, OStar was pulled out of the dream.
She lay there for a long moment, eyes partially open to see her well-lit room. Her door was still closed; maybe only a few minutes had passed since she had collapsed on the floor.
"Home."
Could she portal back home without her memory? Or was this all some lie to get her hopes up.
OStar didn't trust that strange cat, but it made sense. Maybe she could go back after all.
Even if it didn't work it wouldn't hurt anyone if she tried, would it?
She sighed and slowly got back up.
"It doesn't even matter if I go back or not, my memory is still gone and it looks as if I'm all alone in my efforts to get it back..."
The day was only just starting and OStar already felt tired, afraid, and alone. She didn't want to think of herself as a bad guy, but it was starting to feel that way.
Maybe she had killed someone before, maybe many people.
Realization.
OStar had the power of destruction. She could destroy anything easily and quickly, while her power of creation was harder. She couldn't make large or incredibly complex things, she was limited. That was it.
That's who they are.
Pargenti was her creation magic, small, weak, limited.
This other cat was her destruction.
And it was stronger.
