Lauren
"You think you cute cause you got your big ass head done don't you?" I watched Chris walk around the kitchen
"Well you know." He laughed
"I'm not doing it no more." I stuck my tongue out. "Taking your kids beads with your grown ass." I laughed
"Girl I look good." He flipped his hair.
We both laughed loudly
"You don't have any plans today, right?" I asked
"Nope." He shook his head
"Good. You're watching the kids until I come back. The repairs at the store are finished and I have to set up the displays. The new clothes are supposed to get here by tonight."
"You need help?"
"Nah. Emily and Riley are meeting me there."
"Cool. Have fun." He kissed my cheek.
"Dont let them get hurt. You know you like to play all rough."
He waved me off and walked down the hall. I grabbed my bag and left out of the house.
My store repairs were finally finished and it only took about three weeks for everything. I pulled into the parking lot and cut my car off. Riley and Emily were standing at the front talking to each other.
"Heeyyy." I smiled as I walked up to them
"Hey girl." Riley pulled me into a hug. "Your shipments just came. I hope you don't mind that I signed for them. Emily didn't know if she could or not so I just did so they wouldn't take them back."
"Yeah, that's fine. I didn't know they were going to be here this early. I guess we could get some stuff on the hangers and shelves too."
"We are just finishing up, Ms. Smith." One of the workers came from across the store.
"Thank you. Everything looks great." I glanced around.
"Thank you. I just need you to sign these papers and we'll be on our way. This is just going over what we did and the materials that was used. We used the hammerglass like requested. We also installed the generator that automatically comes on after 60 seconds of a power outage. We bought upgraded security cameras. Same brand you had before but the new ones include night vision." He read off the list of things that were done.
I signed the papers and handed the clipboard back to him.
"Thank you and it was a pleasure working with you."
"Thanks." I smiled
"So what kind of glass is this?" Riley looked at the windows
"Hammerglass. Its 300 times stronger than regular glass which would make it so much harder to break it."
"You smart." She pointed and imitated DJ Khaled.
I walked over to the boxes sitting in the floor and used my box cutter to open one of them. I pulled out the clothes and sat them on the counter.
"Ya'll can start with dressing the mannequins for the Supreme section. I have to go get the tag gun, I'll be back."
I walked across the store to my office. I got the tag gun out of the drawer and grabbed the big box of price tags. As I was coming out of my office I could hear Riley arguing with someone."
"I don't care! You need to leave now! You've already done enough damage."
"What's going on?" I looked at Riley. "And why are you here?" I looked at the person she was arguing with, Amy.
"I came to apologize. It was wrong of me to do what I did. The situation was old and I shouldn't have gotten mad like I did. I'm sorry."
I crossed my arms. "Why are you really here?"
She sighed. "I need you to come back to Berluti."
"What?" I dramatically gasped. "Me?"
"Yes." She nodded. "Our sales have fallen almost 50 percent since they pulled your line from our site 3 weeks ago. The CEO said it was my fault and if I didn't get you back, I would lose my job. I can't lose my job, Lauren! I have 3 kids to provide for!" She cried
"Oooooh. So I'm supposed to feel pity because you have children. Where was all of this when you got me fired? I have 5 kids but it's not you so you didn't care right? Where's Jayceon? Tell him to help you out until you find another job."
"Lauren please." She grabbed my arm. "I can't lose this job. I've worked so hard to get where I am."
"I guess you should've thought about that before you decided to be sneaky. Karma wins every time."
"So you're not coming back?"
"Nope." I shook my head. "Tell them thanks but no thanks. You ruined that." I shrugged.
"What about my kids? I can't support them with no job."
"Again, where's Jayceon? He's your man right? He should be willing to help you out. You wouldn't even be in this situation if you weren't so petty. Now, if you would excuse us, we have work to do."
She wiped her face and left out of the store. I smiled the entire time as I watched her drive off. I don't know why she thought I would come back and those tears didn't affect me at all. She knew what she was doing so its no need to be sad now.
