You look down at the bishop, to see a cheetah? on top of him, placing him off balance at the sudden attack. It bites down on the back of his neck and brings him to the ground. It doesn't stop until the bishop stops moving. It gets off the bishop with a hiss before looking up at you. You orphan gasp at the cheetah, afraid it's going to attack you next.

•••

Instead, it just sits down and looks at you curiously. The tip of it's tail twitches from time to time before you finally recognize it's not going to hurt you. You slowly climb down. Once your feet are on the ground, the cheetah stands up and turns. It starts to walk off, but it stops to look back at you. It seems to want to take you somewhere. You're tired and weak, and you're just crazy enough to trust a cheetah right now, so you follow it.
It walks by your side and leads you to a network of caves in the side of the Trench. It leads you in where a pile of sticks await to be lit. There's a small pile of materials, left by another person long ago it seems. The materials are slightly dusty and firm, they don't seem to have been used in a long while. You pick up the string and a rock and tie the string to a stick. You take another stick and twist it into the string. You set some dry grass that's laying around the cave and make a small pile of it. You take the rock and hold it over the stick. The rock has a dent that's a perfect fit for the tip of the stick. You rub the sticks back and forth, hoping to create enough friction to start a fire. It takes a while, but the grass is lit. You place small sticks and twigs over the fire starter, gradually increasing the size until you have a decent enough fire.
You sit back from the fire and wait a while, warming yourself up. The cheetah has been watching you and lays beside you when you've relaxed. You're pretty far into the cave, so if the bishops look for you, they hopefully shouldn't see you. The cheetah curls around you, comforting you and keeping you warm. You find yourself laying down next to it and falling asleep.

•••

You wake up and you can see the light of the day filtering throughout the mouth of the cave. The cheetah is nowhere to be found. You start to worry for the animal, but it's a cheetah. A fucking cheetah! It should be fine. It took down a bishop yesterday! You wait a little while before finding yourself cold. You start another fire with some difficulty, and once you get it going, the cheetah walks into the cave with a small creature in its mouth. It drops a squirrel at your side and sits down next to you.
"You want me to cook this for you?" You ask it.
It purrs in response and pushes it towards you. You make a stand out of sticks over the fire and prepare the squirrel and skewer it and start to cook it.

•••

When it's done cooking, you take it off and offer it to the cheetah. It pushes it to you with its head and muzzle.
"You want me to eat it?" You ask.
It purrs again in response. You take your sharp object from yesterday and prepare the cooked squirrel for yourself. You eat some of it before offering it, yet again, to the cheetah. It looks at you questioningly.
"Yes, I'm fine. Go ahead. Eat." You say.
It reluctantly eats the cooked meal and seems to enjoy it as it scarfs down the rest of it in seconds. When it finishes, it curls up next to you and you pat it gently.
Around noon, the cheetah gets up and leaves, but not before warning you multiple times to stay. You wait for it patiently to come back. It's quite boring and you're running out of sticks for the fire. You hope it comes back soon, hopefully with more sticks as well.

•••

It's dark outside and you've lit yet another fire to give you warmth and light. You're down to the last stick when the cheetah comes back in. It doesn't have any sticks with it, but there's a vulture perched on it's back. It stops midway to you and turns to look back at something before continuing towards you. A dog follows the cheetah, a load of sticks in it's mouth. You sigh a breath of relief. Now you notice the cheetah and vulture have multiple little animals in both their mouths. You prepare your rack and dead animals and start to cook them. You offer one to each of the animals and yourself. The vulture has changed it's position to your shoulder. The cheetah and dog are by your sides and when you finish eating, you just enjoy each other's company before drifting to sleep.

•••

You wake up and the cheetah is gone yet again, but the vulture and dog remain. Now that it's lighter inside the cave, the dog has a nice golden coat and brown eyes, and the vulture has beautiful, jet black feathers and bright yellow eyes. You chat with the animals here and there just out of loneliness and to just do something with yourself while you wait for the cheetah to come back. The vulture leaves a few times to look for food and sticks periodically, while the dog stays with you to give you company.

•••

The dog stares up suddenly and in front of you, growling.
"What is it?" You anxiously ask it.
It just growls in response as it continues to stare at the entrance. A figure moves into the dim space and you immediately recognize him. You begin to back up against the wall trying not to be seen but he comes closer to you. You bolt for the entrance but another bishop has that covered and you run right into him. He roughly grabs you and drags you back into the cave to meet Nico again.
"Y/N!" He barks. "You have disobeyed me for the last time. Come." He commands.
You shake your head and stand your ground shakily. He motions to the bishop behind you and he forces you over to Nico. The dog marks at him and tears at his cloak, only to be met with a foot. He wonders as you turn around to kick the bishop for hurting your companion. The bishop hits you first, sending you to the ground right at Nico's feet. He picks you up by your throat and pins you against the wall. Your heart beats quickly as you tremble in fear beneath Nico's hard stare. He begins to run his free hand up your sides before grabbing your side harshly, making you crumble in discomfort and pain.
"Y/N, we've had this conversation before. And you told me you were sorry! I want you to know that you're nothing. No one is going to save you this time. They don't care about you. And you're going to be punished when we get back." He says into your ear.
Tears stream down your face as you're rendered defenseless under his grip. You can feel him start to lightly suck on your cheek-

•••

You awaken with a loud gasp. The dog stands back worriedly before coming back to your trembling form to comfort you. It starts to lick your face comfortingly and curls against your side. Your chest heaves rapidly up and down, you're not thinking straight, only panic rages through your veins, rendering you a fearful, shaking mess. The dog tries everything to calm you down, and when it nuzzles into your lap as if for attention, it successfully distracts you from your thoughts as you start to calm down. You pat it and relax at a steady rate, your breathing slowing down gradually and your heart rate as well.
"Sorry, Bud, just a nightmare." You say once you're mostly calm.
The dog just looks at you calmly and licks your hand as if telling you it's alright. It curls up around you and places its head in your lap, satisfied with its job and that you're okay now.

•••

Days go by before the cheetah comes back. It walks into the cave and waits for something else to catch up to it.
"Jason, where are you taking me?" A female voice asks.
The cheetah turns back and starts to drag the person in. You get your sharp object ready just in case. The dog then gets up and trots over to the person happily.
"Hey, Jim! What are you doing here?" The unfamiliar voice speaks again. "I swear to god, Jason, if this is why you dragged me out here I'm-" she stops.
You look at her anxiously and curiously, your sharp object still in hand ready to use if necessary. Your heart rate starts to escalate and your mind races to other possibilities. Who is this person? Are they good? Or bad? What if they're going to take you back to Dema? You back up warily, breathing quickly again. The dog trots over to you to try to comfort you and get you to calm down as it starts to distract your thoughts again.
"Hey, I'm not going to hurt you." She gently says, raising her hands in a surrendering and reassuring motion.
You can't exactly see her features due to the dim light, but she had long, straight hair that comes pasts her shoulders, and a yellow sweatshirt; all you can see of her. The dog continues to distract your thought and bring your attention back to it. You finally calm down some more before finally speaking up warily.
"Who are you?" You anxiously demand.
