"I feel like we should help Jill," said Claire. She looked across the cafeteria at Jill, surrounded by Sherman, Lizzie, and all the rest of the freaks of Graymoor High. "Look at them."
"Uhm, I say to leave them alone," Jasmine said. "She doesn't want to talk to us and now that she's one of those 'ewwwwww's....I say not to bother her now. She's like an untouchable now."
"But I feel bad for her. Everyone hates her for no good reason now," Claire said. She looked to Sarah, hoping she would have something nice to say. "What do you think, Sarah?"
"I say we should leave her alone. Didn't you call her once over break and she said she didn't want to talk to anyone?" Sarah reminded her.
Claire sighed. "Maybe she was just saying that. After all, she was with Sherman. Maybe she wanted to make it so no one liked her either. I don't know. Maybe it's a couple thing. You know...Like no one likes them and then they are perfect for each other...."
"Claire, let it go," Jasmine told her.
A minute passed until Claire decided to leave the cafeteria. Once in the hallway, she ran into Mabel. "I heard you felt bad for Jill," Mabel said. She looked like she had more to say.
"I kinda wish she would talk to me again," Claire said. "But ever since Sherman Goody-"
"Uh-oh," Mabel said.
"Uh-oh what?" Claire asked. "Ever since she's been dating Sherman, she just doesn't care whether people like her or not. She literally alienated herself. I think she thinks we are avoiding her."
"I know. She called me over break about it. Also, she sounded very upset by it. Not so much the other ones, but mostly why you would leave her behind and such," Mabel informed Claire.
"Well, I suck. I tried to call her one day but she was with Sherman."
"I think I may have also encouraged her to hang out with Sherman. And I kinda encouraged her to go with the flow and maybe that's why they're dating..." Mabel said.
"Mabel Alexander!"
"Now I feel responsible!"
"It's okay. I'll get to Jill eventually when she comes back down to Earth."
Because we all know too well how Jill was flying high right now. So high off of the ground and she was not looking down.
Today happened to be Sherman and Lizzie's birthday. January eighteenth.
"I don't think there's gonna be a party of any sort," Lizzie told Jill at lunch. "But you should come over to my house. You and Sherman. There will be cake. There will be ice cream. Possibly ice cream cake. There will be s'mores. There will be movies. There will be Sherman. And Nate and Josh-" Yes, the stalker Josh Marx"-and Cody and Jordan and everyone at this table right now can come."
"If you're inviting people, isn't it technically a party?" Sherman asked.
"A party but not really a party," Jill clarified.
"There shall be no booze. There shall be no illegal substances of any sort," said Lizzie. "And no adultery. We don't want to be like the crowd that got ostracized last week."
"They transfered to Dunville, I heard," Sherman informed.
"Yeah, no adultery...Sherman, Jill," Josh said in his normal creepy voice. He seemed quite over his obsession with Jill ever since she started dating Sherman. "Hey, Jill, are you still friends with Claire?"
