DIFFERENT !
mackenzie ziegler.
17 years old."MACKENZIE, Could you come with me for a moment, please?" michelle smiled sweetly at me. i rolled my eyes.
michelle was the new-ish lady. greta's daughter left after she insisted 'she couldn't bear working in the place her dead mother once loved so dearly'. bullshit. she couldn't handle eight girls aged seven to fifteen.
i dragged my feet to michelle's office area, already knowing what this is about. the collin kid that lived in a house near our building. short, redhead, sixteen year old, annoying as fuck. he should've knew better than to go outside when i was walking pass his house.
"so, sit down," she raised an eyebrow, gesturing towards the chair.
"why?" i huffed, crossing my arms around my chest. "i already know what this is about. you're just gonna be like 'do it again you're grounded blah blah blah'. and i'm gonna be like 'okay i won't i promise', even though i definitely do not promise."
"wha- sit down."
i sighed, sitting on the swivel chair. playing with a strand of my hair, i twisted in circles as she said some random words that i couldn't care less about.
"so the turner family is looking to take you in. for good."
my eyes widened. my heart dropped. my face for sure went pale, before i let out one loud, solid laugh. "bullshit. what kind of family wants to adopt a seventeen year old, that should probably be in jail considering the amount of crimes she committed? real funny, michelle."
she looked at me sternly through her circle glasses. "language, miss mackenzie. if you want proof, it's right on this computer screen." she tapped it with an acrylic nail at the end of her scrawny finger, and turned it so i could read it.
hello michelle! my name is natalie turner, i'm a single mother of two girls, nadia (17), and ruby (13). the three of us live in a small town right outside of boston. however, i drove through michigan during the holidays and picked up a newspaper when i stopped at one of the local gas stations for a rest. i was reading about mackenzie ziegler, your oldest girl there.
i feel it would be a great idea for her to stay with me and the girls until she is over 18 and wants to move out! according to the little bio about her, she's never really lived with a family of her own. i want to give her the experience before she has to move away.
i've been looking to adopt a child for the longest time, and being completely honest, never considered a teenager, let alone young adult. but i think it would be good for mackenzie and my daughters, especially nadia. i finally think my family is financially and mentally ready to adopt! and i think mackenzie is the one!sincerely,

"is that it?" i asked, scrunching up my face.
"that's it. pack your bags, sunshine. flight's tomorrow at eleven in the morning."
"eleven in the- michelle!" i pouted.
"i know mackenzie, it's going to be hard. you've lived here your whole life! it's all you ev-"
"no! i mean, you're gonna make me wake up before noon on a sunday?"
she rolled her eyes, sliding a whole envelope towards me. "this is from the file cabinet that greta put together when she first opened this place. look through it whenever, i don't care. just. don't. lose. it. before. you. read. it. got it? it's got important information that you're gonna want to know about."
"okay, damn," i huffed, squeezing the envelope between my fingers.
"language, mackenzie."
"fuck off," i flipped the bird before heading out the door. i knew i was never michelle's favorite, but i could almost feel her smile at my behavior. i knew she would miss me.
