I was forcefully shoved to my knees inside the foreign steel trap of a ship that has appeared seemingly out of nowhere on top of the apartment I had spent the past few years of my life living in with my adopted sister, years older than me. All I had wanted to do was get a breath of fresh air away from the stench of weed, mostly from the door on our left, and now I was being held by a strange pair of handcuffs I'd never seen before by creatures I couldn't imagine existing.
A pair were holding my arms despite the cuffs on my wrists, and I could feel the oddly rough texture of their webbed appendages around my biceps. I turned my head up to glare at whoever was within my sight, and froze at the being before me, completely foreign and mystically strange but oddly somehow familiar.
She- as I had a feeling it was- was a startlingly bright blue from her head to her feet, decorated in shades of blue swirling symbols that once again felt vaguely familiar. Elegant gills ran down the sides of her torso, white scales scattered underneath. Her arms were thin and leanly muscled, dipping into an ombre of a luscious deep indigo at the joints and leading to a dark purple where her fingers began. Thin webbing draped between each digit, boasting a sheen in the dim lighting of the room. Her legs were far more bulky, muscles clearly defined as she stretched them eagerly, dark blue webbing connecting them into a giant fin-like shape. The webbing left enough slack for her to possibly use her also webbed feet for simple tasks like walking, though the appendages there appeared to have far more dexterity than any foot I'd ever come across.
Her stomach was smooth and unmarred, contradicting the tiny scars scattered over her face that showed a seafoam green against her blue. As I allowed my eyes to continue scanning her over in my glare I noticed a fan of frilly webbing and scales from her sides up to the back of her head, spread wide like a peacock and boasting shimmering shades of greens, blues and purples along with a color I could almost but not quite name. Settling on her eyes, three carved slits in her taught skin, I was taken aback by an odd warmth and sad relief, like an artist left with the ruins of their life's work, shining a bright green with darker centers. Her nose was sculpted into the rest of her face, rising slightly to reveal long gashes reaching halfway across her cheeks. A hollow "o" shape rested just above her chin, passing for what I assumed to be a mouth. As she stared back at me with that broken-hearted longing, a low noise like a sigh resonated from within her and the vice-like grip on my arms loosened before disappearing completely as the creatures stepped back.
((A/N this totally ruins the mood but I just realized why we call them 'miners', they're digging for 'miner'als!!!))
I shrugged out my shoulder to relieve the gathering tension they held and stared defiantly up at the female, the only creature I had fully seen. I had a feeling, however, that none of the others quite matched her splendor. Shadows fell across her body as the lights briefly flickered, a new and painful throbbing building in my skull. I nearly winced but held back at the last moment, not wanting to show my pain to the creature seated in front of me. She seemed to see some flicker of movement slip however, and her kind eyes further saddened sympathetically as she rose.
Quickly nearing my hunched frame in a few steps, she leaned down towards my head as I sneered, fearfully hoping to keep her back with my distaste. The others shifted, preparing to once again hold me still, but the female shot them a look I barely caught before reaching the top of my forehead and sweeping back my long brown bangs to rest the height of her nose there. I was taken aback by the warmth it radiated, especially against my skin that remained clammy from the night's chill.
Alarmed at her actions I jerked my head down and away, nearly scrambling in another direction before her hands caught me and held me in place. Her green slits searched mine before a soft voice sounded in the room. "So... this is what they've done to you."
My eyes widened in surprise at the words, and they darted around the room for any other sign of life. Eventually they reached the female's eyes once again, the sadness and heartbreak still evident in their watery depths. "Who are you..?" I managed, my voice small as I barely stoped myself from stuttering over my words.
Her eyes closed, the skin bunching over them in a painful grimace as she held me like I was the only thing keeping her steady. I was struck with a heavy sense of vulnerability, shivering in place at the feeling and realizing that I was completely at the mercy of these people.
"After all of these years you no longer remember your own mother."
I furrowed my eyebrows and stared at her, lost. "I'm sorry, but I'm not... whatever you call yourself. You clearly have the wrong person if you think I'm one of you."
"I'd recognize you anywhere, my daughter," she shook her head, voice lightening in relieved amusement, "even as a human." She stood and pet my head fondly, easing the swelling pain that had been steadily growing until then. I sighed in relief before glancing her way again, noticing her backing into her seat once again. She began to emit more humming noises, the other creatures immediately reacting and once again grabbing my arms. I struggled in panic as I stared at her, trying my best to lash out and stay with the only vaguely familiar face who spoke my language. She shook her head at me again before speaking.
"I know this must be strange, but please do as the guards lead you to. They will help you begin to unlock your memories and equip you for our kingdom again."
"W-wait! Please!!" I cried out as they pulled me away, still struggling. I heard only a final hum before a dark metal slid shut in front of me and she was gone from my sight. Panic set in and for the second time that night I fought the foreign grip that held me tightly, cold against my skin. I thrashed and felt one of the so-called guards stumble, and I promptly shoved their body into the metal before taking off at a sprint and wrenching myself out of the other guard's grip. They sent a series of high pitched notes to each other as I ran in the near darkness, desperately searching for somewhere to hide and plan my escape.
A/N Long time no see, huh? I found this in my drafts and made a few edits so here we are!
