Evening at the Beach

Jin and I sat on the lighthouse balcony, him dangling his legs over the edge while I hugged mine close to me. The sun was slowly dipping into the sea and dying the sky and ocean vibrant reds and oranges. With a sigh I allowed myself to move a little closer to him, resting my head on his shoulder. Although we both had jackets they were light, and the evening was cooled by a brisk sea breeze.

His head turned to face me, and a smile graced his lips as our eyes met. I get lost in their brown depths so easily, and it gives him the chance to gently kiss my forehead. We both smile, and I shiver slightly as the wind picks up. Noticing the temperature drop as well, Jin wraps his arm around my shoulders and pulls me closer. "Not long now," he promised, looking back out to the ocean.

The sun had disappeared, leaving the sky a brilliant red that quickly began to fade. Suddenly I saw several silhouettes leap out of the calm water in rapid succession, their cries quieted from our tall vantage point. I gasped in surprise, fascinated. They tumbled gracefully through the air, kicking up spray and chattering back and forth. Their slender frames sped through the water as they played, and I couldn't help but to sigh happily at the picturesque view. Jin, who had been sitting quietly and watching my reaction, smiled as he stood and offered me his hand. I gratefully accepted and stood next to him, watching his hair sway in the wind. "Let's head in for the night; it's getting a little cold," he said, placing his arm around me again and leading me away.

We walked into the lighthouse again and down the winding stairs. As we passed windows I watched the sky, stars beginning to appear in the gathering darkness. I thought about how fortunate I was to have met Jin, and how much fun we'd had since then. Before I knew it we had reached the beachside cabin the two of us had called home for the past couple of weeks. Jin pulled away and stood before me, nervously fidgeting with his hands. "Close your eyes," he told me, moving closer to the door. I obeyed, confused but trusting. The cabin door creaked open and I heard the flick of a switch before he gently lead me to the threshold. "Okay, you can open them," he said, standing back a bit.

I obliged, and was shocked at the sight that greeted me. A beautiful dinner lay at the table and fairy lights were strung daintily around the room. Jin closed the door behind me as I stepped inside. "I wanted to do something special," he confessed as he rejoined me. "What do you think?"

I spun around and hugged him gratefully, catching him off-guard. "It's amazing!!! Thank you so much!!!" I giddily replied. He sighed in relief and hugged me back. After a bit I released him and we walked to the table, sitting across for each other and enjoying the well-prepared meal.
