The week started rough for Kristine. At mornings she would have IEP meetings, during the day she has testing to do since it is state assessment week. After school, she still has meetings to attend too. She had 5 IEP meetings to conduct and 4 eligibility meetings to attend too. At the end of the day she was exhausted physically and mentally.During the rough week she had EJ did not forget to let her relax at least for 10 minutes and he always make sure she ate her lunch on time.
It was Friday morning when she had a heated discussion with an advocate agency and not only she was getting pissed off also her teachers.
"How sure are you that you are giving the student proper accommodation and modifications in his classes?"
The representative of the agency questioned her and the teachers. For teachers that are doing their best to accommodate a student this feels like an insult and it's like the representative is saying that they are not doing their jobs as teachers. She tried not to blow up in front of the student's parents and her supervisor. She remained calm and answered properly.
"I can assure you Ms. Truce that my teachers and I are giving Andrew the proper modifications and accommodations when he is in class. If you want to see it for yourself, you are welcome to visit us and have a hands-on experience with teaching Andrew."
She looked at Ms. Truce and the representative just kept quiet throughout the whole meeting. When the meeting ended her principal Mrs. Parker stayed back and talked to her.
"Ms. Lopez, you did a good job of shutting her down." Her principal was impressed.
"Mrs. Parker, I didn't mean to do that but it's as if she's insulting not only me but also the other teacher. She's basically saying that we're not doing anything."
"I know, well I have to get going. Good job today."
When her principal left the room she was left alone with her two teacher aides. She was still mad at that representative and she needs to release her frustration. Out of that she swiped all her stuff on her table and it flew to the floor. She sat down on her chair and took deep breaths trying to hold her tears.
The door opened and JM was surprised to see Kristine's table calendar and her other table stuff on the floor. The two teacher aides went to him and brought him to the other side of the room.
"What happened? I wasn't able to attend her IEP meeting because I had to cover her up on her supervision."
Ms. Angie held his arm for him to have a seat.
"She is pissed off. Angry actually." Ms. Rose told him.
"What I heard from the other teachers is she had a heated discussion with a representative of an advocate agency." The old lady explained to him.
"Just leave her alone for now. If you go to her right now she's just going to push you away. The thing is Kristine really hates it when people are questioning what she does." Ms. Rose explained to him. He still wants to know what exactly happens on that damn IEP meeting.
He stood up and started to pick up the stuff she had threw to the floor and placed it back to her table. The two aides went back to their tables and started to prepare for their pullouts. He was surprised that the two ladies know what to do if Kristine is not in a good mood.
He went out of their room and went to the office. He knocked on his principal's door.
"Come in EJ."
