Weeks passed and it was time for me to get back into the work scene again. Being back in New York was unsettling, Jay and Kenneth are getting settled in the 5 star hotel I'm paying for and it didn't matter because I have the funds and I dragged them out here.
Bakari is safely in the hospital and I'm scared.
1 month without hearing his lovely voice and I'm dying inside. Literally ever since coming back to New York my stomach has been upsetting me. I need to get to the hospital and I planned on doing it soon.
I tried waiting it out, staying in bed, because maybe it was just the flu. When the throwing up didn't cease, I knew something had to be wrong, a flu don't last no more than a couple days at most. Mine been going for 2 weeks, so I went into work today, feeling queasy.
Maria was on point today, helping me get to my desk. Looking at my questioningly strange appearance. Even through the makeup I was noticeably sick.
"Boss? Are you alright, do you need another day off?"
"No....I just need to sit". She helped me into my big chair behind my mahogany desk, getting me off my feet. Me somewhat relaxing, but still being queasy. Any slight movement and I might throw up
"Are you sure boss, need anything I can get for you?".
"Just help me run the business today, please. I'm going to need help". I smiled towards her, Maria has earned my trust, I knew she could be trusted to help me, since not only I have my business I have to help Bakari's as well. Take over since he's not conscious right now. "Please stay here, I have to go down the street".
"Boss, that's a bad idea, you are sick, let me go.
Tell me what you need and I'll do it"."You can't Maria, I have to. It's for the owner of that business". I got to my feet and already felt like tossing my breakfast.
I ran to the mini trash can in my room, throwing up and getting a horrible taste in my mouth. I looked up feeling Maria holding my hair, handing me a napkin. I used it to clean my mouth, the foul taste still present.
"Hand me my purse". I said weakly, which she did. I took a piece of gum from my bag cleansing my mouth, the most I could without a toothbrush and actual toothpaste.
"Boss, I hope you don't fire me...but I can't and won't let you go anywhere except the hospital". She grabbed my arm and threw it over her shoulder helping me up. It was good help, and helped me outside. To where she called a Uber to take us to a hospital. "Boss, I hope everything is alright". She whispered to me, my head resting on the window of the car, looking out trying to hold in the little bit of the food I still had left in my stomach.
I smiled at her kindness, but she did stop me from handling the much needed business. She had the right state of mind and I would never fire this woman. She might have just forced me to do something that was very much needed, even more than Bakari's business.
When we pulled up I quickly got out, resulting in my dizziness to occur and me fall to the floor quickly.
"Boss". Maria called and helped me to my feet. Holding my arm around her shoulder as she guided me into the same hospital Bakari was currently resting in.
We went straight to the ER where they gave me a bed and hooked up wires to me and ran a series of tests on me. Maria being the best assistant she was didn't leave.
"Your going to be alright boss".
"Olivia". I stated shocking her and getting her to look to me.
She smiled and finally called me by my actual name for the first time ever, "Olivia". She said it as if it was foreign.
"Gracias Maria".
