Loki was not someone one wanted to mess with. Unless you could control him, do not do anything the god. He was incredibly dangerous, even if he may not look dangerous, it was clear in certain things that he did.
When Odin brought Loki back from the war, not many understood what he was doing. Where had the King's second son come from anyways? It was beginning to become clearer to everyone that he could not possibly be the son of Odin and Frigga, despite what the royal family claimed. The boy had jet black hair, pale skin, was thin, seemingly fragile. The only thing that could possibly hold any resemblance was the blue eyes and the high magic prowess that the boy had. Though even his eyes were odd. There was a certain oddness in them. One that most could not pinpoint. It was too...strange. Nobody could explain what it was, but the boy unnerved most of them. They were, however, reluctant to admit it.
As Loki grew older it was quite obvious that there was something off with him. He held the intelligence that most his age should not know. He was an absurdly fast learner, and it was frightening for some people to really think about the dangers that he may or may not pose. Odin had been forced to think of this for a long while once the matter was brought up to him with the the intense magical power that the boy was showing, as well as the seemingly ease with which he learned newer things. He was weak physically, but with how fast his magical power was growing it would not be long before he surpassed even the most powerful sorcerers in the nine realms.
It was not long before the people realized that even though Loki may not be the biological son of both Odin and Frigga, it was clear that he was a better fit for the throne. He had the understanding of politics that Thor never could grasp, he was intelligent, and he could run circles around people with words. He was not quick to anger, he was quiet-which some saw as a weakness-but he had a sharp tongue when he needed. The ease with which he managed to find loopholes in agreements was astounding, and caused him to earn the nickname silver tongue or lie smith for the sheer amount of times he had managed to swindle someone out of something because of the way he worded something. So similar, but not similar enough. It was incredibly. He would be one hell of a politician one day, many could see the potential. Yet many were wary as well. The boy was not exactly treated well. In fact, despite his status as a Prince, it was more often than not that he was ridiculed, even by Thor. Many waited....one can only handle so much hurt and pain before they explode.
Loki may have been taken in by Odin, but it was clear where the favor of the All-father was. Especially with him wanting to promote Thor to Crown Prince, despite the fact that it was clear to the most sensible of people that he was clearly not ready at all in any way. Many wondered if this was the downfall of Asgard that they had predicted. It was not, Loki had managed to save the day, though many did not know that it was Loki who saved their realm from certain ruin. And the events that led afterwards were not ideal.
Despite this the All-Father did little to punish his wayward son, and Thor continued to be ill-suited to the throne. At the very least it was clear to the blind bat that Thor was not suited to the throne, not yet at least. It saved Asgard, if only for a little while.

Loki, however, it was clear that he was near his breaking point. It would not be long. Yet, most did not see him actually flinging himself into the void. Perhaps he did not 'fling' himself, but merely allow himself to fall through. It was concerning, but none could stop him. He had looked up at Asgard with a manical smile, the several years of pain, hurt, betrayal, neglect, ridicule, and physical abuse from his family, friends, and those who should have protected him had finally driven him to and over the edge, quite literally.

Yet this was only the beginning to any things that none saw coming.
