"Hello Ma'am. I am looking for Jenni. Her latest known address is here. Do you know of her?". A police man. That's a first. "Uh, yes. She's my mom." I replied as I glanced over at Rylan with a confused look. "Can you tell me her date of birth?" he asked. "June 14, 1975." I said a little less nervous as Rylan walked over to stand behind me. "And who is this?" he asked. "This is my friend, Rylan Jones." I replied as they shook hands. "I'm assuming you're her daughter then?" he asked as I motioned him inside to sit because I had a feeling this was going to take a while. We all walked over to the table and sat. "I'm just here to give you what we know about your mother at this point in time. I'm officer Petey. I've been talking to your mother and she is sadly, still unresponsive. That prolongs the case because we need to know if she remembers anything about that night." I nodded and clenched Rylan's hand. "Now, who are you living with?" He asked as he glanced around the house. "Grandma Lucy, my best friend and Rylan but my dad comes home next week or so." I said following his glares around the house. "Great. Here is my business card. Call me if you need anything. Have a nice day now and I should be speaking with you shortly." "Have a nice day and thank you Officer." He waved and walked out the door.
"Well, that was a new one." Rylan said, examining his business card. "I don't even want to answer the door anymore. You are the only good news I've gotten all week." I said as I was doing the dishes. "Got any plans for today?" Rylan asked. "I've got to run up to the store and get some food." I said drying off my hands and putting on my coat. "I'm going with you." Rylan said as he jumped out of his seat and put his shoes on. "If you wish." I grabbed my wallet and walked outside. I love how the trees look after it rains. Rylan came running up behind me and grabbed my hand.
We walked through the forest to get to the sidewalk to walk to town. Our first task was to make it out of downtown alive. Driving is just as bad as walking. I grew up in it so i'm used to all the gangs and stuff but Rylan wasn't too sure of it. I knew most of the Riverdogs so if anyone wanted to mess with us, they should go talk to Skid. As we walked down the sidewalk, someone started to sneak up behind us. "Get outta here Skid." I said hearing him from a mile away but Rylan jumped at the sound of my voice. "Dang man. She still got it. Wassup Shortie? Haven't seen you around here in a while." He said as the rest of the Riverdogs rolled up behind him and he threw me his RD jacket. Rylan stepped in front of me to try to protect me. I guess he saw them as a threat but I grew up going to school with Skid so we were cool. "Well, Mom's in the hospital and Dad comes back next week." I said, voice trailing off as Skid stepped toward Rylan. "Hey there little homie, better watch it." Skid said stepping toward Rylan making him walk backwards. Skid was about 6 "7 and pure muscle. I get scared of him time to time. "Hey Skid, lay off of him." Skid moved back and rolled his eyes. "Who is this kid anyways?"
