Fabri had never known a woman with significant power. He deemed them feeble and weak minded. It was why he'd under estimated Sanem. But Sanem was wiser than she looked. She'd learnt from her mistakes with Emre and in order to cover her own back, Sanem had taken the required steps to catch Fabri out if he went against their verbal contract.
According to a law book she had read a few years ago, you could sue someone who you didn't have a written contract with. Suing somebody with a written contract was easier since there was proof. However, now, Sanem had proof. Her method was unlawful and somewhat immoral, but it was still enough for the court to side with her.
She'd worn a recording device to their meeting. It was nothing fancy, just a cheap little thing that she'd gotten Zeberjet to source for her. But, despite its value in liras, it had done the job. This alongside some extra research that Sanem had done on Fabri meant that she had a really strong case against him. Her recording proved he was disloyal and statements from other businesses proved his unethical treatment of animals and employees. Many respectable CEOs had come forward and had admitted that Fabri had manipulated them into cutting costs by testing on animals. It repulsed Sanem – just how a man would go to the ends of the earth for money. And she was going to make him pay for what he had done. Her research was enough to make Fabri pay up a large sum of money in exchange for maintaining the reputation of his beloved company.
And that money was what Sanem was going to donate back to the agency. It would be enough to help Can get the agency back on its feet. After causing so much damage over the past few months, the money was the least she could do to help.
"I'm sorry, Can." Sanem whispered to herself, clutching her diary to her chest in bed.
This wasn't how she wanted things to go. She had tried so hard to tell Can the truth so many times and nothing had worked in her favour. Maybe it just wasn't meant to be. Sanem sighed heavily, her heart aching like it had been for a while now. "I promise, I'll rectify my mistakes." Sanem made the vow to herself in confidence. "I promise I'll make it all better, even if it's the last thing I do."
As Sanem reassured herself that everything would eventually be okay, Can couldn't help but reflect on how everything wasn't okay.
Can went home that day with a rage that not even working out could control. Usually, doing some sports and lifting some weights was a stress reliever but he'd been to the gym and he'd boxed for hours on end and nothing. Sweat was dripping from his forehead and had soaked through his shirt and yet still, Can was still pent up with all this anger that he was desperate to release.
Every time he looked left or right, he was reminded of Sanem.
As he stood by the back door, he remembered their passionate kiss under the sprinklers. That was the day she'd told him she loved him – had she truly meant it? He could feel her wet body pressed up against his, her skin cold and yet oh so warm at the same time. As he went back inside, he remembered catching her in his room in his big white shirt, the day she'd been clumsy self and fallen into the pool. She was scantily clad, and she'd mistaken his room for Emre's. He'd tried to seem cool and collected but he remembered what the sight of her had done to his insides. She was beautiful and barely dressed and it had taken everything to withhold himself then.
But as he ventured into the living room and he remembered her and the stupid red file, Can's anger returned.
He felt like an idiot, first and foremost. He was a well-educated guy and he couldn't believe he'd let Sanem, Emre, Aylin and Fabri manipulate him the way that they had. It felt like so many people had easily pulled one over on him and he didn't know how to cope with it. It was why he liked being alone; why he liked to travel so much. Can had never really connected with anyone or anything and it was why he enjoyed the comforts of nature. There was something about nature that made him feel so small and insignificant and he liked that. He liked blending in and capturing the beauty of the Earth through his trusty camera. In fact, Can never thought he'd love anything more than his camera until he met Sanem. He hadn't thought it was possible, but she'd stolen his heart from that first kiss in the dark.
However, now that he knew everything was a lie, Can wanted nothing but his old life back. He wanted his father to be healthy and able so that he didn't have to deal with the pressures of the business. He wanted to be aimless and free whilst conquering every inch of the planet. He wanted to sail the seas and hike the highest mountains. But most of all, Can wanted to forget. He wanted everything to go back to normal. He wanted a drama free life that consisted of travelling and yearly meetings with his girlfriend.
And so, Can did what he had struggled to do before. Once, Sanem had told him to leave ... she had told him that she didn't love him and that he needed to leave her alone. But Can hadn't believed her. He'd ripped up his plane ticket and adamantly tried to pursue her. He'd fought for his love and he'd failed. And now that his efforts had all been for nothing, Can knew what he had to do. He needed to let somebody else handle the business for a little while and he needed to go lose himself in the wilderness again.
Without even thinking about it, Can logged onto his laptop and he brought himself a plane ticket. To England ... where Polen was.
