True to her word, Sanem had been there after Can had had a long talk with his brother. It had been a difficult talk, one that had resulted in both grown men – Can and Emre – reducing themselves into tears. But it had been necessary ... Can had said everything he had needed to say that he was no longer harbouring any negative feelings and Emre had had to take a backseat and listen to exactly what he had done wrong in their relationship. It had been though, for them both, but Can had left that hospital room feeling more at peace than he had in a while.
And knowing that Sanem was there, waiting for him, was the most comforting feeling.
Doctor's had discharged her in Can's absence, and she was sat outside Emre's room, a bandage wrapped around her head wound and her hands intertwined tightly in anticipation. Despite not really liking Emre, for Can's sake, she was hoping they'd make up. As soon as she heard the door shut in front of her, her head snapped upwards and the expression on Can's face said enough. He looked tired and worn out and the two exchanged no words.
Sanem simply got up from her chair cautiously and let him wrap his arms around her. She was so small when they hugged, his arms ceasing her waist. He rested his chin on the crown of her head and just savoured the moment. Can let the warmth of her body envelope him, burying his nose into her silky hair. Just her being there was comforting, her scent calming him down instantaneously. She was the only person capable of that ... humbling him and calming him when there was a war raging within the depths of his head. At that thought, Can squeezed her just that little bit tighter, his lips leaving the lightest kiss against the side of her head.
They didn't know how long they stood like that, wrapped in each other's comfort. But once Can's polarising emotions settled, he whispered into her ear softly.
"Let's get you home."
"But the campaign-" Sanem had work to do and she was adamant to head back to the camping ground. Plus, she wasn't too keen on explaining her newly found head injury to her parents.
"We can worry about the campaign later." Can didn't take no for an answer. All that mattered to him was Sanem's wellbeing and he ensured she got home safely. Every time he stopped at a red light, he'd glance over at her; he was just worried she was hurting. But each time she felt his head turn, Sanem smiled lightly in reassurance. Can's proximity to her made her feel stronger than she'd ever felt. In that moment, within that confined space of his car, Sanem had never felt more alive. The butterflies that were cocooned within the depths of her stomach had jumped alive and the colour in her cheeks were returning. She'd overheard Can's words in her state of unconsciousness and that had been enough to make the weight on her chest feel a thousand pounds lighter.
He still loved her, cared for her, wanted her and that was all that Sanem needed to feel better.
However, that had not been enough for Can. He hadn't wanted to overwhelm Sanem with his declarations of love and sincere apologies and so, that day he had reluctantly given Sanem's care up to her parents. After much reassurance from Mevkebe about Sanem's wellbeing, he watched her solemnly disappear into the depths of her house; his heart still empty and unfulfilled. In that moment, Can promised himself that he would be better ... for Sanem. Now that she was awake and on her road to recovery, Can knew he needed to prove his love to her with the grandest of grand gestures.
He had seen it in his dream one day and was determined to make it a reality. That dream had started in his hut, that little cabin in the woods that sheltered him from the outside world. He pictured white drapes everywhere, an endless supply of roses resting wherever she looked. He had dreamt of Sanem in white too. He pictured her looking around in amazement, the sun glistening of her skin like he knew it did. He'd watch her from a distance, letting her take it all in before he'd walk out and confess everything. The plan was to tell her how everything had gotten mixed up and that he would always love her, no matter what.
He had it all planned out to the most minute of details, but it wasn't the easiest of things to pull off, especially when he and Sanem were thrown into the stressfulness of the Compass Sport campaign. Instead of flowers, jewellery and romantic music, Can and Sanem were dealing with stacks of paperwork, Deren and the annoying yet loveable rants of CeyCey. In fact, once Sanem was well enough to be back at work, they had barely had a moment alone together. Can would catch sight of her at the office and within the space of a split second, she was gone again. It was like trying to catch a needle in a haystack.
Although, the only thing that gave Can hope was that this time, Sanem wasn't avoiding him deliberately. She was genuinely swamped with work, like he was, and he inwardly prayed for the world to play in his favour.
"We're almost there, thankfully!" Like always, Sanem was away running some errand whilst Can and Deren dealt with the nitty gritty elements to the impending campaign. "After tonight, this campaign will be done, and the office will be up and running like it used to."
"I know." Can sighed with a gratefulness that extended more than Deren was aware of. With the campaign finished, it meant that there was no extra strain on the company financially. His father's legacy would be protected, and Can could go on living his life comfortably in Istanbul. It also meant that he and Sanem would both be less busy ... and he'd finally get to divulge in the mother of all apologies.
"Aren't you excited for tonight though?" Deren jumped up in her chair whilst Can nodded absentmindedly. His eyes were fixated on the busy office behind his doors, his eyes desperate to catch a glimpse of Sanem. But with the hustle and bustle that was associated with their upcoming deadline, Can realised his endless pining was to no use.
There was just one last little hurtle to overcome – the campaign's big launch party tonight ... the place where he'd finally get to set his eyes on his Sanem again. She had been working her butt off for this campaign and Can was ready to reward her in more ways than one.
