"Popcorn?" Asked Nate, already heading towards the snack bar. I nodded my head yes as I scanned the items on the menu. "Can I also get a lemon soda?" I asked the lady behind the counter as she types in our order. I offered to pay, but he was quick to swipe his card, which I didn't mind since it's the gentleman thing to do.
I wasn't sure if I should go on a date with him or not, especially after his confession and the fact that I am not sure about my feelings for him or my lack of. But it somehow felt like I wouldn't be giving him a fair chance if I rejected him without knowing him better, and as Amy said, not every love has to be grand and feet sweeping. "I didn't take you for a sci-fi girl," He exclaimed as we made our way to the viewing hall. "I'm not complaining, tho. I've been meaning to come watch this one for a while now." He chuckled.
"So, what did you take me for?" I asked, an amused smile finding its way to my lips. He is easygoing and fun to be around, I will give him that. "Hmmm," He hummed, observing my face, almost missing a step as we climbed up to our seats. "A Rom-com kind of girl?" He suggested.
He gestured for me to sit before he took his seat next to mine, handing me my popcorn, before sitting the sodas in their place in the arm rest. "Just because I'm a girl doesn't mean that't I'm into rom coms!" I exclaimed, or rather teased. "You know that's stereotyping, right?" I said as people started filling the theatre.
"So you're not into rom-coms?" He asked, raising his eyebrows challengingly. "That's not the point," I shook my head as I shoved a few popcorns into my mouth.
"You haven't answered my question,"He shook his head. "I am, yes," I admitted. "But that doesn't mean every girl is!" I added.
"I never said that," He said, looking at me in amusement. "Then why did you choose this one, there is plenty of Rom-com options?!" He asked. Because it would make me uncomfortable if you saw me cry. I wanted to say, but I settled for, "I read the reviews, and they said the graphics are pretty good." I said, and I did read the reviews, don't get me wrong, it's just that I wouldn't go for a sci-fi if I wanted to watch a movie, that's all.
"Ahmm," He mumbled as the lights dimmed, and the ads started rolling on the big screen. "Thank you for the popcorn," I whispered. "It's my pleasure," He smiled down at me, and I have never been this thankful for the dark as my face started to redden. And he makes me blush.
....
"That was good," He exclaimed as we walked out of the showroom, "I can take this," He offered, pointing at the empty soda cup and the popcorn bucket. "Thank you," I offered as I handed it to him.
He rushed to throw them in the nearest trash can as I waited for him by the cinema entrance. "Did you enjoy it?" He asked as he came to my side, and we made our way outside and onto the chilly winter air. "Yeah, the graphics were nice, and the storyline was actually pretty great." I usually do not like sci-fi because of the abundance of CGI and lack of plot, but for this one, it was actually a nice amount of both.
"I think it was even better than the first one," He nodded. "I didn't know there was a previous one," I chuckled. "I was so confused when they kept mentioning events that never happened." I added as I tucked on the hem of my sleeve covering my hands as it became chillier by the minute.
"I actually watched it yesterday just to impress you with random facts about both," He chuckled as we crossed the street towards his car. "Guess it was in vain since I didn't even watch the first one," I chuckled as we reached the parked silver Toyota.
He clicked it open, opening the passenger door for me. "Thank you," I offered as I slipped in, greeted by a bit of warmth. he made his way to the other side, getting into his seat before bringing the car to life and turning the heater all the way up.
"It's getting colder and colder," He exclaimed as he sat back into his chair as we enjoyed the warmth the car emitted. "I will still try and impress with something else," He smiled, making me look up at him. "Like what?"
"We'll see," He grinned. "I'm a man of many talents."He winked, making me chuckle. He makes me laugh. "You're something," I mumbled, "Something good? Something bad?" He smiled down at me, his eyebrows raised in question.
"Something in between," I teased. "I'll take it," He nodded with a smile.
"It's cute," I added, as he swerved the car towards the main street. "It's every guy's dream to be called cute by the girl he is on a date with," He chuckled, his eyes still on the road.
"So this is a date?" I asked. I know it is a date, what else could it be! But it feels different hearing it from him. "What did you think this was?" He asked in clear amusement. He is amused by my antiques.
"I don't know," I said, "Another high school experience," I suggested. "Friends hanging out," I added with a shrug as the car came to a halt at the red light.
"We can say it is also a high school experience," He nodded. "But I am not sure about the friends part." He said, his eyes turning to me, and I can finally understand what Zayna meant by "The eyes" as I squirmed under his gaze. He does like me.
But I like someone else.
