December 10th
Daegu, South Korea
Back home, Seokjin could tell something was off with Taehyung and Sooah. Taehyung refused to speak about what happened in Hilo, but promised to announce the results this afternoon when Sooah came in for her shift. Seokjin trusted his friend knowing that he dealt with many abnormal heart diseases and illnesses that weren't known even to the finest doctors.
It was now 5 p.m, and everyone gathered in Seokjin's office, apart from Naeun who was asleep in her hospital room, since Seokjin realized she was getting to weak recently, knowing time was running out. Taehyung walked down the long corridor, his heart beating a thousand times a second, with a child constantly running down his spine. He wasn't prepared to see Jimin and his wife, Sera distraught over the news. Naeun wasn't his daughter, yet Taehyung felt like his lungs were closing up at the sight of her suffering. The door stood in front of him, yet he couldn't bring himself to touch the cold handle and face everyone.
But a certain aroma filled his nostrils, and before he could even turn around a hand wrapped itself around his cold on, sharing the warmth with him. Looking down at the hand, as delicate as a flower, some part of him forgot about his worries, as he looked up to meet Sooah's eyes. "We can do this, Taehyung." Her word worked magic, as a kick of confidence sent his hand to the handle, and he opened the door to meet eyes with everyone.#
Sooah's hand left his as she went to stand beside Seokjin, but Taehyung took his time to look at everyone especially Jimin. His kind eyes looked back at Taehyung, sending a supportive smile as if to say he was prepared for whatever was coming.
"Taehyung-ah! Catch the ball!"
Before Taehyung could even prepare himself, the basketball came at the boy with full force, sending him flying to the ground. Jimin's contagious laughter filled the court as he ran over to the younger hitting his leg as he couldn't stop himself from cackling. Taehyung grunted, hitting Jimin at the back of his head. "Shut up I was distracted." He smiled, taking the ball and running to Jimin's side of the court and scoring a shot.
"Yah! That's just cheating!" Jimin complained, whining as he sat down at the bottom of the bleachers. Taehyung joined him, shrugging his shoulders before taking his bottle and having a drink of water. "I still won." Jimin smiled cheekily, wiggling his brows as Taehyung caught on to what the older meant. In a matter of second Jimin had climbed Taehyung's back and instructed him to run. "Kyaaaaaa!" Jimin laughed out, as Taehyung ran around the court like a maniac trying to scare Jimin into getting off his back.
Present time
Taehyung smiled back, walking towards Seokjin's desk before taking a deep breath and looking at Jimin, his only source of confidence in that moment. "Naeun has a rare case of Ebstein's anomaly. She's developed it ever since she was born and it's a miracle she survived 5 years without professional medical help." Taehyung nodded, seeing the wide eyes of the two parents.
"As much as we hoped, we haven't found a safe and practical sure to save Naeun. If we were to follow her up on her medical check ups and give her prescriptions she would spend the rest of her life in a hospital bed." Jimin rubbed his hands together, hoping for any good news to leave Taehyung's mouth in that moment. Taehyung breathed in, before calmly breathing out and continuing.
"Yet what Seokjin's friend did tell us was that there is a more risky cure, which would save her from living her life in the hospital." Sera stood up, tears in her eyes as she watched Taehyung intently. All these years her and Jimin have been told that their daughter was better off going under anesthesia and being let go, or to give up had made them loose all hope. But now it seemed like a light shone at the end of a dark tunnel.
"The only way to save Naeun is to proceed with a heart transplant." Taehyung lowered his head, not wanting to see the faces of his close ones. In the mean time, Seokjin closed hi eyes shut at the thought of the girl not pulling through, yet a part of him believed that she wanted to live.
Jimin slumped back in the couch, knowing how much of a risk a heart transplant was in a child's circumstance. But after agreeing with Sera that they would do whatever they could for Naeun, Jimin simply nodded, taking Sera's hand in his and squeezing it tightly. "Let's do it. If there is anything that could help Naeun, I want to do it."
And so with that, Taehyung and Sooah walked out of the office and began the procedure, which they hoped would save the poor girl's life.
A/N: Next chapter will be a little emotional, so I will put a couple song suggestion for you guys if you want to get in the feels.
I love Jimin and Sera's relationship, and how much they care for Naeun. Not many people get such loving parents.
