December 12th

Daegu, South Korea

After two days of constant testing, Taehyung and Sooah were faced with a new problem. No matter who they tested, Naeun had no match for a heart transplant. Seokjin became so desperate everyone had to talk him out of trying to get himself tested. Taehyung sat in Naeun's hospital room, looking at her sleeping figure, connected to so many wires to keep the little fighter going.

Only yesterday did she start to refuse food, throwing up even when she tried to eat. It seemed as thought all the symptoms that were supposed to show up since birth were only catching up to her now, and it rapid speed at that. Everyone worried whether she could pull through until they found a match for her. "Uncle Taehyung?" Her weak voice snapped the man out of his thoughts, as he moved his chair closer to the bed and gazed at the girl with so much love.

"Yes, dear?" He stroked her hair away from her face, hiding his fear behind his kind smile. The girl couldn't be surrounded by people who doubted her chance of survival. She had to believe she could pull through.  She smacked her pale, chapped lips together, her eyes blinking slowly. "Am I gonna die?" her voice seemed monotone, but sweet in its own sick way.

Taehyung's world seemed to have crashed that moment. He knew how she felt, he experienced it with loads of different children. But he never let them believe they could die. He would never let them give up. "Of course not. You have to be strong and keep going for mommy and daddy okay? I know you feel sick when you eat food so this little wire here is giving you all the good stuff you need. So don't worry." Taehyung held the IV Naeun was connected to and gave her a wide smile. She smiled back at him, nodding before closing her eyes again to fall into a deep slumber.

"Taehyung?" He looked towards the door to see Sera, Jimin's wife, smiling at him with tears in her eyes. "Can I have a word, please?" The way her voice pleaded, Taehyung knew it must've been something important. He nodded, before walking out the glass doors of Naeun's private room. The two adults stood outside, and Sera hesitated whilst she glanced at her daughter one last time before looking back at Taehyung. "Me and Jimin promised eachother we would do everything to make sure Naeun is happy, and we'd go back to being a healthy happy family." She fiddled with her fingers, sliding her ring up and down from the nerves.

"I'm going to ask you for a favor but I don't want you to mention anything to Jimin until it's time." Her eyes questioned me, but I didn't know what to say. Especially in this time I didn't want to keep anything from Jimin, he had gone through enough. "Okay." I breathed out, looking into Sera's eyes which became glassy, with tears falling onto her pink cheeks.

"I want you to test me and see if I can become a donor." Her voice came out loud and clear, yet Taehyung couldn't hear anything. He couldn't do that to Jimin. He didn't know if Naeun could survive the operation, and if Sera died along with Naeun, Jimin would loose everything at once and Taehyung knew we wouldn't be able to go through with it.

Taehyung shook his head, tears in his eyes as he broke down in front of the woman, who grabbed his upper arm and begged. "Please, just try. I know most transplants between adult ad children don't work but maybe, just maybe this could work."

It was true, adult organs were too big for children to receive. But there was the exception, that if the child was bigger for their age, or if the adult was particularly smaller, it was certainly possible. Taehyung paused for a moment as breathed, nodding towards Sera to say he would try. He did not want to break Jimin's heart, but he could not reject his wife in that moment. Even if she became compatible, he would force Sera to speak to Jimin first before he proceeded with anything.

After the two spoke, Sera walked off to go and see Jimin and Taehyung slid down the wall to sit down on the cold ground. He shoved his head into his hands, messing his hair out of misery. "Taehyung?"

His eyes snapped wide open, and his breathing quickened. He knew that voice far too well, and he was not prepared to meet the ghost of his past.

Kang Iseul.
