I sat down next to Chuck at the back, as Newt stood at the front.
"Alright, settle down." Alby told everyone. "Now, I'm sure you all know that the new greenie is a girl. Which means a lot of you boys will probably develop a thing for her, and because of that reason, I made a new rule. No one, and I mean no one, is allowed to touch or be in a relationship with Amy unless they have her consent. Any questions?" Alby asked. No one answered. "Alright then, back to work." Alby told everyone. Most of the boys walked out, except for Newt, Chuck and Alby. I stood up as the two leaders came up to me and Chuck. "The boys haven't really finished a hut for you yet, so I'll have to ask someone to share their hut with you." Alby told me. I nodded.
"She can stay with me." Newt said. I looked at him. Why would he say that?
"Sure. Unless Amy doesn't think that's okay." Alby told him.
"No. It's.....fine." I finally answered.
"Alright then. Newt show her to your room." Alby told him as he walked away. Newt walked me to his hut.He opened the door.
"This is my hut. I know it's small, but.... it's home." He told me, as I walked in. It had a bed, and a small table. Newt walked towards the bed. "Okay, since we ran out of hammocks, you can sleep in my bed." He said.
"Well, where would you sleep?" I asked.
"On the floor of course." He answered. I shook my head.
"No. I can't do that......it's your bed. I can just, um......I can just sleep on the floor!" I said quickly.
"I can't ask you to do that. It's not very nice for the new greenie to sleep on the dirty floor. I can sleep in a sleeping bag on the floor, it's fine." He assured me. I slowly nodded, knowing I probably wasn't going to win this argument. "Alright well, I'm going to go help the boys get ready for the bonfire. Are you gonna be okay here by yourself?" He asked.
"Um....yeah." I answered.
"Okay then." He said. He started to leave, but came back to me. He passed me a notebook and a pen.
"We found this in a bag, next to you." He told me.
I looked at the book, and saw my name carved into the leather cover. "It says your name on it. So the boys thought it was yours, and that you would want it." He said.
"Thanks." I answered.
"No problem. See you at the bonfire." He said and walked out. I put the pen on the table, and looked at the notebook. I felt as if I have seen it before. I traced my finger tips over my name. I opened the book, and saw the first page had a small note on it. It said:
Don't Forget Me
I was confused. If this was mine, then who wrote this? I closed the book, and put it on the table. I walked out of Newt's hut, and started walking around.
"Hey!" Someone yelled. I turned around and saw another dark skinned boy coming near me. "Excuse me. Are you Amy?" The boy asked.
"Um, yeah." I answered
"The name's Frypan. Alby told me to tell you about your job." Frypan says.
"Um, okay. What's my job?" I asked.
"You see, some boys don't come to get food. And everyone has to eat. So your job is to deliver the food to the shanks who don't get food." Frypan tells me.
"Okay. When do I start?" I asked.
"Tomorrow. At breakfast." He tells me.
"Okay." I said.
"I'll see you at the bonfire." He tells me as he leaves.
