I woke up the next morning, did my job, and waited for my brother to come back, because I just heard this morning he is a runner. I heard noises coming from the maze, but ignored them, when a lavender butterfly landed on my book, that I had open on my legs.
"Why hello there, little guy." I said to it. I put my hand out, and it landed on my finger. "You have very pretty wings. I wish I had wings. This way I could escape this place. You're lucky you can." I said. "You wanna be friends?" I asked. The butterfly nodded, as if it understood me. "Can you understand me?" I asked, and it nodded. "Okay cool. My name is Amy. And I will call you...... Ender. Short for Lavender. Sound good?" I asked. It nodded. "Okay, cool." I said. The butterfly flew off. "Bye Ender." I said, and I heard Gally and Thomas arguing again. Then, I saw the girl come over. I heard her say Alby is awake, and followed them to the medjacks's hut. I walked in, and sat on the bed, next to the now awake Alby. Newt crouched down in front of Alby.
"Alby, are you alright?" Newt asked. Alby didn't answer.
"Alby." I said, and he looked at me. "Are you ok?" I asked. He didn't answer.
"Hey, Alby. We may have just found a way out of the maze." Thomas said. He looked at Thomas.
"How could you do this? To your own sister?" Alby asked. I'm confused, what? I started hearing sounds outside, so I walked out. I looked, the sky was getting darker, but the doors aren't closing.
"What the hell?" I asked rhetorically. Then, grievers started entering the Glade. "Oh god." I said, and began running. Suddenly, a tail stabbed the ground in front of me. I stopped, and saw a griever behind me. I ran, but it shoved me to the ground. I waited for death, but it never came. Someone grabbed my arm, and pulled me with them.
"Are you ok, Amy?" Gally asked. I nodded, I looked behind me, and saw a group of boys with us. Gally brought us to the box, opened the top, and told us to go inside. We hid in the box. One boy begged to be let in, but a griever got him first. I hugged the person closest to me, which was Gally, in fear. Soon, the grievers left, and the attack was over. We all climbed out of the box. Suddenly, I remembered my boyfriend. I looked around, and he was nowhere to be seen.
"Come on. Let's find the others." Gally said, and we followed him. We found the others. Newt saw me. I ran, and jumped into his arms.
"Are you okay?" He asked.
"No, I'm scared." I said.
"Gally." Thomas said, before Gally punched him in the jaw. Newt, and the others held Gally back. I stood in front of Thomas.
"What are you doing?" Newt asked.
"You heard Alby. He's one of them! He's one of the creators who put us in here! Now, he's destroying our Glade from the inside! Amy was almost killed because of him!" Gally yelled. Newt looked at me, but I looked away. Suddenly, everyone yelled at Thomas. I turned around, and saw Thomas on the ground with a stinger in his leg. I dropped down next to him, and pulled the stinger out. I put his head in my lap.
"Thomas. Thomas, can you hear me? Hang on! We'll help you." I said. Jeff fixed Thomas, and we were waiting for Newt's command.
"What are we gonna do now?" Frypan asked.
"Take him to the pit." Gally said.
"You're not in charge, Gally. I am." Newt said.
"Look around you Newt. Everything is destroyed. We have nothing left. It's all Thomas's fault this happened. Amy would died because of him if I didn't get there in time. And you being in charge isn't making everything better, so I'm in charge. And what I say goes. So,Thomas and Teresa are being banished tomorrow at sun down. And you have a choice. You can follow my rules, or you can be banished with them. You're choice." Gally said. No one spoke. "Alright then. Take them to the pit." Gally said. The boys took unconscious Thomas and Teresa to the pit, and locked them up. The next day, Newt, Minho, and Chuck went to check on Thomas. I couldn't because I had to do my job. So I did, and sat on the ground, waiting for Ender to show up. I was curious about the butterfly. It could understand me. Not many animals could understand me. Unfortunately, the one who could was killed. Chestnut. He was the only animal who could understand me, until Ender showed up. I was interrupted by Newt coming over to me. He put his hand out, and I grabbed it. He pulled me up off the ground.
"Thomas is awake." He said.
"How is he?" I asked.
"He's fine. We have a plan. Everyone that wants to leave the maze will come with us." He said. "We're finally getting out of here." He said.
"What about Gally, and the others?" I asked.
"They won't want to leave, and we can't change their minds. We have no choice but to leave them behind." He said. I felt sad for the thought of leaving half the family I had, for a month and a half, behind. But then I realized. Gally wants to stay here, and we want to leave. We told him a lie. And leaving the maze, would mean betraying him. Betraying my best friend. But we had to leave, because if we didn't, when the grievers came back, they would kill us. "Are you gonna be okay?" Newt asked.
"I don't know. But we have to leave, or else we're dead. I feel like I'm betraying him." I said.
"You're not betraying Gally. He made his choice, and you made yours. It's not betraying. It's parting ways." He said.
"I'm gonna miss them." I said with tears in my eyes. Newt hugged me.
"Me too." He said.
