flaws

We often think of people in the Bible as perfect, amazing figures. They're in the Bible for a reason, right? We hear about Noah and the ark, Samson and his incredible strength, Ester and the massive amount of courage she had, the underdog David defeated the giant Goliath, Paul impacted numerous lives, and so much more.

But today I was reading Genesis 19-21 and I couldn't help but notice that the people in the Bible that I was reading about were flawed. They did things that the Bible disagrees with.

Abraham — Was old.
Elijah – Was suicidal.
Joseph – Was abused.
Job – Went bankrupt.
Moses – Had a speech problem.
Gideon – Was afraid.
Samson – Was a womanizer.
Rahab – Was a prostitute.
Samaritan Woman – Divorced.
Noah – Was a Drunk.
Jeremiah – Was young.
Jacob – Was a cheater.
David – Was a murderer.
Jonah – Ran from God.
Naomi – Was a widow.
Peter – Denied Christ three times
Martha – Worried about everything.
Zacchaeus – Was small and money hungry.
The Disciples – Fell asleep while praying.
Paul – A Pharisee who persecuted Christians before becoming one.

I wondered why God would use these people to teach us. Why would God write about flawed, broken people if He wants us to do the opposite of what is written?

You would expect God to use a perfect, rich, well-mannered person like a Pharisee to convey a message to use, right? I would think that too. However, after I did more research, I come to understand why God did this—it's because it's normal!

No one in this world is perfect. Everyone sins. Everyone has flaws and makes mistakes.

The people who are written about in the Bible are like us. They're broken. Some have serious issues and problems in their lives. They don't always do the right thing.

I think that's why God did this. He uses and works through broken people. And look how amazing that turned out! Look at all the wonderful things God has done through these broken people!

If you ever think that you're not good enough for God to work through you, you're wrong. God can use anyone and it will make an impact on someone.

You can be the most broken person in this world, and God can and will help you. He's always by your side and He will never leave. And maybe someday, He'll work through you and you'll do incredible things.
