In the craziness of Lily's rescue, Violet, Sunny, Isadora, and Duncan had been left forgotten on Briny Beach. However, a boat sailing by spotted the four of them and came to shore to help them in anyway. So let's now return to when Klaus and Quigley were figuring out how to rescue Lily from Olaf and move from Olaf's house to the water around Briny Beach.

"Thank you for your help, sir," Violet said kindly to the man as he took them on his boat and toward a 'less sinister area'. Duncan questioned his motives.

"It's nothing. And I was just trying to find where my parents left my sister after our house burned down. Shouldn't I be the one questioning you?"

"The world is quiet here?" Sunny said with a questioning look. The stranger smiled.

"I didn't think Volunteers existed up here in this area anymore. Especially not ones so young. You three are around my sisters age, and when I left home for boarding school, she knew nothing of VFD, only that our parents were in a secretive business and she wanted to know what." This peaked the four children's curiosity.

"Was your sister a detective?" Violet asked.

"Yes," answered the stranger, now sharing a similar curiosity. "How did you-"

"Is your last Shade?" Sunny asked.

"I don't think I understand that. My name is Trevor Shade, if that's what-"

"Lily!"

"Klaus!"

"Quigley!"

"What's this about?" Trevor asked after the outbursts were done and the four children had calmed down.

"It's a long story." Violet began. "My brother and sister and I went to live with Lily, who was living with your Aunt. Then she told us about how she believed the fire that killed our parents and the Quagmires and your parents were all caused by the same person."

"Let me guess where this was heading: my little sister was right and Aunt Norma didn't care."

"Yes, and Lily was furious. She also helped us track down our friends the Quagmire Triplets and I made an invention to get them out of their self sustaining hot air mobile home. However, we were tracked down by a villainous man in the process who confessed everything he did to Lily. The only way we could get the three of them down to the roof was to have Lily distract them."

"Which is why I'm here. I know Count Olaf's dangerous and with his confession of his crimes in the open, Lily could be in terrible danger. Is she with you or your siblings?" The four children stayed silent. They had no idea that at that very moment Lily was sending signals to Klaus in Morse code, or of any of the other events soon to happen.

"Your sister was kidnapped." Sunny said in a small voice. When Trevor just looked at them with widened eyes, Violet added, "My brother Klaus and their brother Quigley went to rescue her. I think we need to rescue them all now."

"Have you ever faced Olaf before?"

"Countless times. Someone should write a book of our unfortunate events so we'll know what will happen next."

"I can tell you what we can do next. Rescue my sister and your brothers from Olaf's clutch's."
