Finds and Losses

The trolley was much more rickety than the Baudelaire orphans remembered. The Quagmire Triplets didn't look very pleased with the ride either. At least, Klaus thought so by the way Isadora held onto his arm. Once they stopped at Briny Beach, Violet, Isadora, Sunny, and Duncan got off, heading for any shaded spot to be seen. Klaus and Quigley pretended to get stuck on the rather crowded trolley, and as Klaus watched his sister's concerned looks in the fading light, he hoped he was doing the right thing.

"We are doing the right thing, aren't we Klaus?" Quigley asked as they took the trolley into the city.

"We'll find her, I know it."

"But how? Do you have a plan?"

"We're fighting fire, Quigley. There's no plan that guarantees we'll actually be successful."

"But there is something, right?"

"There's always something. For now we're just improvising."

"But this is Olaf. We can't just walk around here without a plan."

"This is rescuing Lily from Olaf. We find where she is first, and we come up with a plan of rescue after."

They continued to argue about a plan all the way to Olaf's house. In the cover of nightfall, they could see lights in different places. They moved a bit closer to see, when Klaus gasped. Quigley got down, thinking they may have been seen, when Klaus whispered, "She's here."

"You saw Lily?" Quigley asked as he pulled Klaus down.

"I saw someone else. I guess you could say she's a friend. She was heading out of the room."

"Did she see you?"

"No. I think she's heading for wherever Lily is. She had a plate of food in her hands."

Klaus was right about were Fiona was heading. When she entered the room, there was Lily, splinters on her hands and little stubs of blonde hair starting to grow back on her head.

"You shouldn't try that, you'll only hurt yourself."

"It isn't like I have much of a choice, Fiona. I need to get home, my cousins fight all the time and I'm the only person who stops them. This is starting to feel stupid and incredibly frustrating."

"I think someone came to rescue you. But how would he know where you are?" Fiona didn't sound surprised or even suspicious. She sounded a little impressed.

"You didn't tell Olaf, did you?"

"Of course not. You just need to figure out how to get Klaus's attention without attracting Olaf's. It honestly seems more like a Violet Baudelaire problem to me, but you should try and come up with a something."

"There's always something." Lily said to her with a smile that made her whole face glow. Suddenly a thought occurred to her. They had her spyglass and she still had there's. "Morse code."

"Morse code?"

"Yeah, you know, three short taps make an S and three long taps make an O?"

"How is that supposed to help?"

"You'll see. And if you see Klaus or any other Baudelaire, try and direct them this way?"

"Alright. I'll try." After Fiona left the room, Lily took Violet's grappling hook and used all her strength to pull off one of the boards. The window was broken but still much to small to climb out of. It was, however, the perfect place to send a signal. Lily hoped Klaus would see it.

As Klaus and Quigley made there way along the side of the house, they did happen to notice a small flickering light that almost seemed to be Morse code. Klaus stopped to translate it.
