Chapter 19: The Truth Is Out

Hayden's POV

"What do we need totalk about?" Herkie asks looking me with a very confused face. "It's aboutPearl." Herkie eyes suddenly fill with panic. "I knew something was wrong withher, she has been avoiding a lot lately, and every time we talk she just seemslike she is a million miles away." I push Herkie against the wall. "GET A HOLDOF YOURSELF!" I yell at him, and all he does is nod his head. "There is a goodreason why she has been acting strange, and unless you shut your trap, you arenever going to know." Herkie takes a deep calming breath before I release him."What is going on with Pearl Heidi?" I suddenly come up with an idea on how toget exactly what I need and destroy the lives of the people who wronged myfamily the most. "Before I tell you, I need you tell me something first."Herkie once again nods his head. "I need to know if there are any unicorns inAuradon." Herkie thinks for a moment and then smiles at me. "Of course,Auradon's forest is filled with all types of creatures and animals." I lookdeep into his eye until I see my own reflection. "Are you absolute sure?"Herkie takes a step forward making me take a couple of steps back. "I ampositive, there are unicorns in the forest." I smile at me giving him a fakethank you hug. "Heidi, why are you looking for unicorns?" I pull away from himand out the hug. "I have only heard stories of them, and didn't think that theywere something real." Herkie adjusts the bag on his arm nodding his head at me."Well believe me, they are here, but unfortunately the unicorn is endangered,and that means there aren't many left." I can tell that this seems to meansomething to Herkie, but to me it just something I can cross off my list ofthings I need, and it brings me one step closer to going back home to the Isle."Now what is going on with Pearl?" I look at Herkie to see that he is desperatefor the answer, but I know that he doesn't really want to know the truth. "If Itell you, you must swear that you won't tell Pearl that I am the one that toldyou, she told me this in secret." Herkie eyes again go back to revealing hispanic. "I swear Heidi, I just want to know, and then that way I can't helpher." I start thinking of what happened no so long ago on the Isle, and how onechoice changed everything for me. "Heidi, you okay? You seem distracted bysomething." I push the painful memory away not wanting to deal with it rightnow. "Yeah, I am just fine." I say feeling all the negative feels that havemade me into who I am. "The truth is that Pearl has been lying to for monthsnow." Herkie looks me with a shocked look on face, and his eyes are unsure whatto believe. "What do you mean? Pearl would never lie to me, and to lie to mefor months doesn't sound like her at all." I let out a small laugh but I don'tthink that Herkie heard it. "She has been keeping a horrible secret from you,and the worst part is that she is dragging innocent people down with her."Herkie is speechless for a moment but soon finds the words he is looking for."What could she possible have done?" I place my hands on his arms and staredeep into his. "Pearl is pregnant Herkie." The look that comes across his faceis the same look that Harry had when he found out about Henry. Herkie falls tothe leaning against the wall and I can see that he trying to wrap his brainaround the bombshell is dropped on him. "I can't believe it." Herkie says in alow tone of voice that it might as well of been a whisper. "I know, she isdestroying herself over this." To my unpleasant surprise, I see a huge smilestretch across the lips of Herkie. "I am going to be dad." I wasn't going tolet him get what he wanted, and I knew exactly how to wipe that smile off hisface. "I wouldn't be too sure about that if I were you." Herkie looks up at meand I look down at him with cold and unforgiving eyes. "She isn't going toabort the baby or give it up for adoption, is she?" I shake my head at himwhich gives a moment of relief. "She is too far along to abort it, and sheseemed set on keeping it." Herkie just gives me a blank stare. "She told methat she isn't sure you are the father of her baby." The look of the worldcrashing down fills Herkies eyes and I am loving every second of it. "That isimpossible, I am the only guy that Pearl has been with." I slowly let out asigh hiding the smile on my face. "Turns out that you have been way too busyfor her, and she found another man to give her what she needed." A fire lightsin Herkie's eyes as he stands up his anger getting the best of him. "WHO ISHE!" Roars Herkie ready to rip apart any name that leaves my lips. "I can'tbelieve that I am saying this, but Pearl told me that the only other guy thatcould be the father is Harry." Herkie lets out a humongous roar as he stormsaway pushing people out of his way and destroying anything that gets in hisway. "I feel better now, I know that I did the right thing." I say to myselffinally letting out the laugh that has been threatening to erupt from inside ofme. I start slowly making my way out of the dorm rooms and back outside. "Whatan evil day to hunt a unicorn." I take a deep breath before heading to theforest, and heading towards the next ingredient to my freedom.
