Never Just Assume

Chapter 13

No One's P.O.V.

Courtney, Destiny, Zari, Ricky, Zeke, Leo, and Nick are sitting in the waiting room. Courtney's mom and sisters are there also. Nick sits next to Courtney and puts his hand on Courtney's shoulder, "Valentine will be fine." Courtney shrugs Nick's hand off her shoulder and glares at Nick, "Whatever Nick." Courtney gets up and switches seats with Destiny. Nick sighs and sits next to Leo on the other side of the room. "Don't worry Valentine will be leaving soon and you can get your girl" Leo whispers. "Your right" Nick whispers.

Henry burst through the doors and runs straight to the front desk. "Valentine Reid" Henry says, "Is Valentine alright?" Everyone looks over when he says that, but he doesn't notice. "What is your relationship with Valentine" the receptionist asks. "Father" Henry says. The receptionist types something into the computer and Henry taps his foot. The receptionist says, "Still in surgery." Henry nods and takes a seat. He sighs and lays his head in his hands. "Excuse me" Henry hears and looks up.

"I couldn't help but over hear your Valentine's father, I'm Courtney" Courtney says, "Valentine's friend." "Hello, I'm Henry" Henry says, "Do you know what happened?" Courtney sits down next to Henry and says, "There were gunshots and I was hiding in the principal's office when Valentine found me. We then made our way towards a classroom when we ran into two guys, but we managed to get away. We ended up running into a third guy. They were going to shoot me when Valentine jumped in front of me and took the bullet."

Henry just nods his head. "Hello, I'm Annabel, Courtney's mom" Annabel says, "I just had to come over and say thanks to the father of the guy that saved my daughter twice. "Henry" Henry says, "What can I say, it's in Valentine's blood. Just like me he will go to the ends of the earth to protect those he cares about." "Why don't you and Valentine come over to dinner when he gets better" Annabel says. "It would be our honor" Henry says.

Henry talks with Courtney and Annabel, but mostly Annabel. Courtney, Zari, Destiny, Ricky, and Zeke talk. Courtney continues to ignore Nick. Nick and Leo sit off in a corner and whisper to each other. Leo, Nick, Courtney's family, Ricky, Zari, and Zeke end up dozing off at one point or another. A doctor walks out and says, "Valentine Reid." Henry gets up and talks to the doctor. Henry walks back over and says, "Valentine is out of surgery." "Go on" Destiny says, "I'll wait here."

Valentine's P.O.V.

I hear voices, but I can't quit make out who it is or what they are saying. I open my eyes but immediately close my eyes because the light hurts my eyes. After a few tries, my eyes adjust to the light and I look over to my left. I see my dad and Courtney talking. "Its going to be okay Courtney" my dad says, "Val's a fighter." "Its all my fault Valentine is even hurt in the first place" Courtney says trying not to cry. "Courtney look at me" my dad says, and Courtney looks at him, "It's not your fault. Valentine chose to take the bullet for you."

My dad pulls Courtney in and she cries into his chest. Ok what is going on? My dad is being nice to Courtney, he called me Val which he hasn't since I came out, and he is comforting Courtney. "Hey" I say. They look over at me in relief. Courtney walks over to me first and hugs me. "I'm so glad your ok" Courtney whispers. My dad comes over and hugs. I am shocked but cover it up so that Courtney doesn't notice. "I'll go let everyone know that Valentine's ok" Courtney says giving me another smile and then walks out.

We watch Courtney walk out and then my dad says, "So that's the famous Courtney." I just look at my dad with a blank expression. "I've been doing a lot of thinking ever since I got the call" my dad says, "I'm so sorry Val." I don't look convinced and my dad can tell. "There's no excuse for my actions for the past few years and I can't really explain why. I have been a closeminded dick and I can't express how sorry I am" my dad says, "These last twelve hours have been the most terrifying hours of my life. I thought I was going to lose the last thing your mom gave me, I thought I lost you and I honestly don't know what I would do if I did."

I study my dad for a few seconds and then say, "Its going to take some time, but I really want things to go back to how they used to be." "Me too Val" my dad says, "I missed bud." "I missed you too dad" I say. The door opens and in walks Ricky, Zeke, Zari, Destiny, Leo, Nick, and Courtney. Leo and Nick stand to the side while everyone else comes over and hugs me. "I'm glad you're ok Valentine" Zari says. "Glad your alive too" Leo says, "Too bad your moving otherwise I would say we should go celebrate." Destiny glares at Leo. "Set up that celebration" my dad says, and everyone looks at him, "Since Val won't be leaving."

Everyone is shocked. Ricky, Zeke, and Destiny smile. Zari smirks at Courtney and Courtney blushes. Leo and Nick look at each other in disbelief. "This is bullshit" Nick whispers, "We were about to get rid of him." I stare at my dad in disbelief and then smile. "Who's hungry" my dad asks, "Dinner or whatever you want to call it is on me." Everyone says bye to me and walks out. Courtney looks at me and blushes and waves. My dad stops her before she walks out. "I think you two need to talk" my dad says, "Valentine here has the biggest crush on you and he won't shut up about you." I cover my face as I turn red and say, "Daaad."

Courtney giggles and my dad says, "Go get him." "Stop talking" I say. "And Val" my dad says, "Go get your girl." "Good bye dad" I say. "Alright alright" my dad says. My dad walks out and I look at Courtney. "So..." I say. "So..." Courtney says, "You're not leaving." "Looks like it" I say. Courtney walks over to me. After a few seconds of silence, I go to speak when I get interrupted by Courtney's lips. I am shocked, but quickly recover and kiss her back.
